Oh jeez, I avoid the beautiful people when I go to the gym! Gives me too much of a complex! But, I can see your point....maybe I'll try that and see what happens

egg white my foot, eat the whole egg and make it 2-3 at least. That's like drinking half a protein drink, you would be missing a lot of good nutrients. try and drop the rice at dinner and go with a few veggies.

Eggs are a great source of complete proteins and other nutrients but when you are trying to eat the proper ratios of protein carbs and fats the additional egg yolkes up the fat calories so normally I eat 1 whole egg with three or 4 whites this way you get the benefits of all that's good but not too much fat. I would rather get my fat calories from a better source such as fish, nuts olive oil etc. Dropping the rice at dinner is a very good idea, you should eat most of your carbs earlier in the day when your body will burn them as energy rather than convert and store them as fat. Another point would be drop the white rice and go with brown. In general the starchy carbs such as rice and potatoes are not a good choice, the exception would be when included in a post workout meal when the higher glycemic index of these foods aid as a delivery system for your proteins.

I am trying to do this too. I have have almost totally cut most carbs I used to eat, potatoes, breads, rice, etc. Totally cut sweets, cakes, ice cream, candy except for some occasional dark chocolate. Hoping to get back to my gym after I shake this cold that has hounded me through the holidays. So far I have dropped about 8 lbs since Thanksgiving. But I am not sure what to snack on between meals and what is better for snacks, nuts? veggies? protein bars? I really like the Zone bars I usually try have one for breakfast everyday with an apple.
I see lots of good ideas here but a lot of different opinions too. Trying to find what makes sense.

I usually cook a whole egg with egg whites that way its still low fat and your not missing out on any nutrients.

Cutting carbs too low is not a good idea, doing so will have almost the same effect as not eating enough, it will send your body into "starvation mode" and most everything you eat will be stored as fat. Instead try cutting out processed carbs and switch to whole grains, brown rice and seewt potatoes etc. Eat these carbs earlier in the day, later in the day eat fiberous carbs such as green veggies etc. Normally a good starting point would be 50% carbs , 35% protein and 15% fat. If you need a larger amount of fat loss lower your carb intake and increase your protein and fat intake something like 40%,40% 20%. Not knowing specifics if you are lets say a middle aged woman and not very active you should probably be eating around 1600 cals a day, divide this by prefferably 5 meals/snacks a day so your meals should be around 340 to 350 cals eack and snacks slightly lower. Now pick your proteins carbs and fats to meet the ratios above and your off to a great start. Remember the food sources you get these ratios from are more important than the ratios themselves in other words you wouldn't want to get your fats from candy and soda, instead fish, nuts, all natural peanut butter, avacado's etc. the same with the other groups as well. Also I cannot express enough how important water is especially if you are eating more proteins.

Brown rice is an excellent choice. I am not familiar with the uncle ben's but take in consideration that some brown rices are processed, always read the label and make sure it is whole grain. There should be nothing else on the ingredient list except for whole grain or long grain rice, anything else and it's processed.

I'm sure she knows more than me, if she suggested it then it's most likely a good choice. That statement is true about a lot of products, if you get in the habbit of reading labels you would be amazed at the junk that is in so called "healthy foods". I find a good example would be anything in your food pantry, grab a package of something you think/or is stated to be healthy and go past the hoopla and read the ingredient list. That's the info you need. If you buy a breakfeast cerial for example, the label might say something like heart healthy, no trans fat, reduced fat, reduced sugar etc. etc. now read the ingreadients. You will find all sorts of stuff in there that you know just from the sound is not healthy. Another key is the items on the ingedient list are in order, there are larger quantities of the first ingredient than the last so if you buy whole grain bread and there is 8 ingredients before the whole grain guess what?

I agree 100%. She said is is pretty sure it just said grain on the back but we will get some more. She said you can get frozen brown rice as well that takes 6 mins to heat up and its just precooked. But easy.

I always read the back of the box or carton. Like yogart. People buy LF or FF yogart and think its good for them but they dont notice that they often put tons of sugar in there to make it taste better. Some cereals may be low fat but you may not be getting the same nutrition as you might can get in another that has a few more calories.

And always if you see something the back of the box that looks weird, google it. You should know what you are adding to your body.
