Next time slam on your brakes for that baby crossing the street....oooh my bad it was just a big leaf. I know they would have given you a ticket for tailgaiting. Let them buy you some paint.

That thought did cross my mind but why mess up a nice car. If I was driving my pickup I may have done it. The bumper of my Silverado would have connected about mid hood.....got my plate number now?

And to the pull over and question the office posts, once again to the LEO's does that dash cam work all the time? If not it's my word against his... I didn't just fall off an NC turnip truck so I know which way that would go.

Are you an LEO? and is that standard procedure, i'm not trying to be a smart a** - i'm really curious? the speed limit is 55 on hwy 33, so yes I was exceeding the speed limit by 5 mph.

I don't like the riding the bumper trick either but the reason I suspect is to see if you will flinch, see if your nervous and will do something wrong.

But everyone gets nervous, I get edgy just watching cops on TV

Yea...it is under certain situations. Your reasoning for being offended is strange. Had you been stopped and yanked out of your car for no reason, then I could say a little cop bashing is more than warranted..

However, this could absolutely be common practice for a different circumstance. Did you ever realize that maybe it wasn't speed related. People seem to only relate police to speeding enforcement or "someone that can help me when I need them, but any other time they need to disappear". Don't take it so personal, you were not even stopped. You could have matched a vehicle description.

Take the time to realize we get calls that say "2 door black coupe newer model sports vehicle involved in an armed robbery". Sometimes that is all the information we get which is understandable when a victim is under tremendous stress. We rarely get "Camaro, Mustang, Pontiac"...last week I got silver 4-door sedan with unknown occupants...right?

This is not a bash on you, man...just relax. Someone said they pull into a parking lot, that is not a bad idea either. However, why waste your time? I don't really get that part, if he has a reason to stop you and has established probable cause he will...just some friendly advice.

I will also say, I haven't been a cop very long, only 5 years. Before I was a cop, I felt they were always much closer than they really were. Don't get me wrong, I have seen cops do the bumper tag before. It seems to be the fresh cops straight out of the academy. They try so hard to find the "big bust", so they dig and fish and run tags to get that catch. Can you blame them? That is what we, as tax payers, pay them to do. Get the big bust. You weren't stopped, and if you live in that area then you know they are "hunting". If we don't find that catch during our shift, we don't lose any sleep over it. I train new officers and watch them do this and frequently have to yell at them to utilize the other wide f-ing open lane. Drives me crazy too...hell, maybe it was a guy who just loved camaros too. I don't know, none of us know. But like I said, before I was a cop...I always felt like they were much closer than they actually were because I was so nervous. Complained once to my family member who happened to be to my passenger side and he told me he was closer than safety should allow, but it wasn't uncommon of any daily driver...just food for thought

...and yes, the dash cams are always working.

Time of day 4-ish PM, traffic light, sunny, Hwy 33 south, 47 year old guy driving a yellow SS

Driving down a two lane road going home from work, wearing seatbelt, cruise set at 60 mph, I saw you at the gas station and we made eye contact. About a mile down the road I saw you passing cars coming up behind me, you were hauling butt because I was doing 60 and you closed the distance very fast. No lights or flashers. By that time I dialed the cruise down to 58. When you did get behind me what was the reason to get so close in your Charger that I could not see the front of your car and only about 1/2 the hood in my rear view? Then you backed off to about a car length (I guess you realized you couldn't read my plate since you were so close) and I saw you on the radio. Did the report come back that my record is totaly clean? last ticket for speeding about 10 years ago. Then you felt the need to get back on my bumper? Did you think something was up because I didn't slow down to 55? Did I weave? Either way you stayed less than a car length behind me for over a mile and 1/2. Did you get nervous when I tapped my brakes? Must have since you dropped way back, about 4 or 5 car lenghts....didn't mean to scare you, I was tapping off the cruise, since I was turning at the next street, did you like the turn signal? Must have since you followed me down that street. At least you backed off since you found out that the next left I took was the street I live on. To bad you didn't follow me down that street, I stopped about a 1/4 mile down to check the mail box. Since you were so interested in me you could have picked up my mail. Sorry I ruined your afternoon and I didn't run, wasn't a drug dealer, wasn't wanted......maybe next time you will get your big bust
car's a "target" man!..can't let it bother ya!..be cool!..they lose interest, and find somethin' else to do!

Keep a bag of donuts in the car at all times. When being tailgated by the police, throw one out the window. They'll be off your bumper and after that donut like a duck on a junebug.

They stop and ask me questions if they see me walking, they don't mess with me when I'm driving. I guess I must look like big trouble to them because I have a big nose.
