I didn't say wider, I said make the front and rear the same- ergo less understeer.

i understand that, Im just saying maybe if the 5.0 had tires as wide as the Camaro (or wider) it would also do much better.

I am aware of this laptime too, but there are some things about that video that indicate something is fishy. First, his peak speed down the front straight is 142mph compared with C&D's 137.9mph....that indicates a pretty big HP differential. Second, the PP vehicle appears very stiffly sprung...there are not many street cars out there that jump off curbing like that, not even the GT3 RS was reacting to curbing that way. It takes unstreetably high spring rates and stiff shocks to jump like it was doing. And last, that guy is drifting the car all over the place; he has good car control but wasn't that great at balancing the car in corner exits, which is where fast laps are made.

I still want to give all the credit in the world to the GT500, and I'd take one in a heartbeat.

The Peak speed difference is also determined by the exit speed of the previous turn, not necessarily a difference in HP

Of course it would do better with wider tires, pretty much every car they've tested there could do better with wider tires.

overplayed? you see hundreds of vettes on the road daily while you might be lucky to see 1-2 ferraris or lambos.
And has said that he'd gladly buy a ZR1.

What I mean by overplayed is that everyone expects a Ferrari or Lamborghini to go fast. On the other hand, everyone is shocked when a Corvette smokes those Italian sports cars.

People who don't even know what hp is

Anyways, it's a shame they didn't run the 911 gt2rs. Probably couldn't get their hands on one

but he hasn't and still drives the gallardo. the zr1 is an awesome car but 95% of the people don't know it from any other vette.

I'm betting GM sacrificed to improve steering feel. Wider front rubber would lessen the tendency to oversteer and likely improve absolute grip but it would also tend to numb the steering

I think you mean reduce the understeer, and judging by the aftermarket camaros (Pedder's camaro has 305s on all 4 corners) and Z28 spy shots larger front tires is not going to hurt anything. Have a slightly lower ride height, stiffen the suspension, 275 tires on all 4 corners, Cut copy and paste the G8 GXP steering as an optional suspension package with atleast 3.73 gears and Im sold.
