I personally love reading all of this. I have been to the track alot here in SA and I admit that the new 5.0s are sick and some 10' & below GTs but they aren't worth shit if they don't have DRs on them. I can't tell you how many times I have beaten a 5.0 / GT because they can't get traction. Now, I have plain ol' street tires on and being an auto don't have to worry about shifting; but everyone here has made some valid points. Keep the good stuff rolling - and off with YE HEAD! :slice:

Wow. That's pretty bad. It's almost impossible, I would think to not be able to break out of 14's in Texas where, he DA is normally good too...

I always thought competition was a good thing? And knowing, understanding, the competition was essential to overcoming them. Sure, they might be better now, but the more we know, the less chance they'll stay better.

In short, IMHO, having "spokespersons" for the competition here is a good thing. They'll do the research I would have to do otherwise, lol! Plus, one can never have too much knowledge, or friends, even if you never meet them. It's all a good read, and makes this site one of the better ones out there.
Well said sir.

I bet if none of the ford people were here, the stupid idea that "the 5.0 comes maxxed out from the factory and wont take well to mods" would still be thrown around and actually believed because it essentially turns into a mob mentality.

I never see the owners of the other makes that come to the camaro board get hostile and personal with name calling or such ridiculous statements like "_____ brand makes the worst crap in the world, blah blah blah". That kinda talk, where no facts are presented are utter trash.
At times I read your posts and think "troll" just because it seems you are trying to stir up trouble when in reality you just call it like you see it. Facts are facts and as much as some people may not like it, you speak the truth in your above statement.

I would have to agree with you here. A little friendly banter and competition doesn't hurt anyone involved. Some people take things to heart when they shouldn't.

With that said, you wanna race?

The Humidity is the killer here in the summer, where the avg. DA is well over +2k from morning till after dark. See some negative DA days in the winter and spring. It is likely the poster is making the mistake of comparing the fastest wintertime runs of car-X to the slowest summertime runs of car-Y.

Here is what happens at SAR with a 5.0 and no traction in the Summer months. Mind you I had traction control ON. D/A was ~2,500 ft.

Here is what happens at SAR with a 5.0, minimal bolt-ons, decent traction and D/A:

Agree traction is the bugaboo of the new 5.0.

"Congratulations on your second run in 13s!"

Seriously though, did you sell your GT500 for an R/T?

Was having Hell all night working on that 13.3 pass that never happened. The stock 18" wheels with all season tires were having none of it. Traction control off was a disaster. I have raced for years and had no answer for controlling the wheel spin.

Our GT500 is soon to have a new owner. We were in need of a larger car. Wife liked the Equinox but I could not stand the thought of it. It was a nice family SUV-like vehicle and give GM credit on a well made unit. Our other option was the Challenger. Local dealer was offering $6.5K in rebates/incentives which brought it in under $30K with the options we were looking for.

Kids now have plenty of room and we don't feel so neutered.

She wanted an automatic which was fine with me as they seem to post better 1/4 mile times. Already have a list of mods planned out over the next few months however the Mustang comes first. What is left over will go towards the Challenger upgrades.

Jesus. Huge difference. I have to ask, what minimal bolt-ons constitutes though, and did that include a tune and drag radials on that second run? Just curious.

13.6x @ 107? Did I read that right?

Bone stock run was: 13.6@107

Second post with mods:
O/R x-pipe
CAI
Tune
ET Streets

I personally feel once I fully fix my traction issue with the ET Streets it will run 11.7's, possibly 11.6's or better. I cannot launch above 4.5K with the stock suspension. Best 60' is a 1.7. Should be running 1.5 60' times which would knock 3-4 tenths off the ET given equal conditions.

11 sec. pass, we were fighting 15MPH headwinds gusting to 22MPH. No excuses on not running better but should be quicker next time out.

Very nice runs. Amazing what a free flowing exhaust, CAI, tune and a bit better than stock tires will do for your car. Especially considering those mods don't cost that much, yeah?

That's what I've noticed across the board though, the new GT's really respond well to a minor bolt-ons and a tune...
