*** Mercedes C63 AMG runs 10's @ 125.66 with bolt-ons, tune, and DR's***
Hello all,
I wanted to share this remarkable feat with fellow performance enthusiasts. This is very unique and somewhat historical in the sense that very few other sedans (and coupes) can run high 10's with no power adders like F/I or NOS. A few other drivers are running low 11's at nearly the same trap 122-125 mph, with the same mods. The previous N/A record holder just added more aggressive cams to his engine, so he will likely break into the 10's on motor as well. Here's the link to the thread on MBWorld.org where this is being discussed: http://www.mbworld.org/forums/c63-am...02-2010-a.html I know some will doubt that a 4000 lbs car (with driver and gas), maybe 100-150 lbs less with the few weight reduction mods these cars are employing, can run in the 10's on just motor with bolt ons. It's even more amazing because these cars are putting down between 450-475 rwhp, tops! Anyway, I'm just a proud C63 owner who still loves the 5th gen Camaro and wanted to show you guys what's going down in another platform. For point of reference, bone stock C63 AMG's will run mid-high 12's if the weather is not very good, and if the car is using street tires. In good weather, some stock C63's have run 12.1-12.2 ETs. No stock C63 has broke into 11's, even with the help of drag radials. A C63 is running very strong and the weather needs to be pretty good, with good track prep for a C63 to run high 11's with just a tune and DR's. C63's with just a tune and street tires can trap 120 mph in the 1/4. The reason C63's gain so much from just a tune is because C63's come from the factory (AMG) DETUNED. The throttle blades only open 62%. This engine, the M156 makes over 500 bhp when the throttle blades open up to 87%. The E, S, CL, CLS, SL, and ML 63's all come with a M156 engine that has throttle blades that open up to 87%. The C63 is the only de-tuned M156 car. So, it's very common for the C63 to make 50-60 rwhp with just a tune. Anway, just providing some facts to add some background for the C63. ![]() Edit: I just noticed in the vid of the record-holding car that the passenger seat was removed. It weights 62 lbs. So that is some further weight reduction for this car. Just wanted to put everything on the table. Still extremely impressive. Last edited by SonnyakaPig; 12-03-2010 at 03:30 PM. |

That's pretty fast any way you cut it! Especially with full weight or at least near it! I'm not entirely familiar with most of today's eurotrash cars, can you give us more info. This sounds new and pretty exciting to read about besides the usual banter that goes on here!

Sure.
Right now, there are about 3 C63 AMG's that are running 11.2-10.9. These cars have Modern Horsepower longtube headers, Modern Horsepower ECU tune, MT drag radials, CAI's (which many will debate the effictiveness of right now), but they may be worth .1-.15 lower ET. I believe two of these cars have CF hood and trunk. Maybe only one has the trunk, but all at least 2 of them have CF hood, maybe just 2/3 of these fastest cars have CF hood. CF hood saves about 35 lbs. Trunk about 15 lbs. You can remove the spare tire, accompanying tools, floor mats, owners manual, for about another 40 lbs weight savings. So, not a huge cut in weight, but it helps. Also, not sure if any of these cars have this done, but you can get lighter brake rotors, this can save as much as 28-40 lbs depending on the car. The previous record holder went further with the weight reduction mods. He removed the roof and moonroof and replaced with CF. I think this saves another 40 lbs. But, the current record holder has stock moonroof. Modern Horsepower has the fastest C63's right now. A couple other C63's with another brand LT's (made by MBH), other brand of tune, and DR's, and perhaps part of an air intake (kind of compliacted on our cars, not just one component, there are tubes that flow into two air boxes, which then go into a Y opening, that then goes into the intake manifold, where the TB's are actually located (inside the intake manifold), are running mid 11's. With better weather and more practice with their current setups, their times will drop a little more. Any more questions please feel free to ask. |

At the same track -- ATCO -- that Dodger63 ran the 10.9x, another C63 owner, "Mthis" (great name), ran a 11.19 @ 125.51. The 11.19 ET car only has MHP LT headers, MHP tune, and MT DR's.
This is a quote from the 11.19 car's driver: |

You are saying that the throttle never opens to 100% on any of the engines? Or that it is restricted during launch or shifting. I find it hard to believe they made an engine that they never open the throttle all the way on. Unless it has some abnormally large throttle body they don't open completely because the engine can't utilize that much airflow? Strange.

I see a post over there where someone thinks 600RWHP is needed to run those times but I disagree. If properly setup and with some weight reduction like you said, it could happen. There was a guy Frank who had a 1995 Z28 cam only car on Z28Camaro.com that ran 11.74 with a tiny low-end "stump puller" cam that made less than 335RWP on a 3400# car (before some weight reduction). Some guys with heads and big cams couldn't run that fast. His car cut sick 60' times and was setup perfectly. Also, the new LS1 cam only cars are breaking into 10's...mush lighter than a C63 but less HP too.
Crazy thing is these are bolt-ons only

They are inside the intake manifold, so it's not like the air intake connects into them like on an LS3/L99. This is a quote taken from a thread discussing this topic. Here's the link to the thread (it's a good read and it was started by a very respected tuner/hardware engineer): http://www.mbworld.org/forums/c63-am...e-comment.html The following post is written by the owner of Modern Horsepower, who has the fastests C63's under his stable. "I have recently seen aftermarket throttle body's being produced for 63 AMGs. Aside from the rather shocking price it should be known that the OEM dual 74mm TBs flow over 1400cfm. On it's best day a stock longblock M156 will ingest 675cfm at redline, with H/C still under 800cfm. What this means is that the stock TB diameter is sufficient for bolt-on applications and far far beyond, and is far from a restriction--there are much greater corks in the system that need to be addressed before anyone thinks about larger TBs for these motors." |

Like you said, it's amazing how some cars can just get the power to the ground and do much better than some cars that have more power and are at similar weight. |

You mean a ZR1 without an LS9 and a transmission, and maybe even seats? Because, for 50K, I don't think you can purchase a ZR1 that drives.
![]() Perhaps, you're talking about purchasing a C63 in Australia. In that country, you are right, C63's are like 150K. Supply/Demand. |
