The Mustang has always been the cheaper of the two cars. To put a new engine in it is going to raise the price of the car. Then to take off weight as is being claimed to happen, and make the power that is also being claimed will raise the price of the car even more. Basically its a cost thing. To keep the price of the car down so they sell more units. They have in the past gave up being the lead in hp for the cheaper of the two cars. Right now if you actually load a Mustang to compare with the Camaro the price difference is about $1500. So for all the advances that are being said to be coming the price will have to go up and to keep competitive with GM they arent going to price themselves out of the market. Just dont see it happening.

Are you forgetting the GT500? That engine will put 850hp to the wheels.

Hmm.

As for above poster, I can believe they are developing a dual-clutch, but I'll believe the successful application in an affordable car when I see it.
Who would have access to the new 5.0 but Ford? That makes no sense.

That 5.0L Ford engine is cute little thing. I'm not "spooked" at all. Even if the Mustang was to come in weighing a little less with the 5.0 and had similar hp/tq - GM's 6.2L will likely respond much better than a high strung 400 hp/tq 5.0. IMVHO

Why? Thats a little lower specific output than the 3.6L DI the Camaro and CTS so its not unreasonable from a technical standpoint. From a performance/marketing perspective that would put it on even footing with the Camaro SS, and why wouldn't Ford at least aim for that?

True

The LLN article doesn't say who's Mustang it is. Maybe it is a Ford Mule?

If GM can afford to put the 3.6 V6 in the base Camaro, then why shouldn't we expect Ford to be able to use a 5.0 V8 with very similar specs (DI & dual VVT) in the GT. Although the V8 in LLN's pics look like it has port injection.:(

you compare how much $$ it takes to do that to how much a similar LS engine would be and be on your way.

Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Like I said the page before. Its not that they cant do it or that the 5.0 wont come back. Due to Ford being a penny pinching, run by the bean counter company I dont think they will do it. For a long time they've gone with mass sales for lower cost. As it stands now the Mustang when optioned as closely as can be to the Camaro the cost difference is only $1500. I think with the new engine, and the weight savings we keep hearing about coming from them I dont see the engine being ramped out to those numbers. I think they will underpower it and let their aftermarket addons due the power upgrading for them. They will let the buyers make the higher hp for them, while making more money for themselves. Dont get me wrong my guess for power output of the engine is 385hp/360tq. That way they get close to the competiton, can keep R&D down, and dont have to wind that motor up to the roof to make the power output they want. Of course this is just as much hearsay as what we have heard from anyone else.

The 2011 Mustang will be port injected still. The DI motor is not coming out in the 2011 model. No word yet on when it will.

....~$15,000 in a blower, pulleys, a forged bottom end, and a tune. Add that to my Camaro and it's the base price of a stock GT500.............

i think they'll make it to 400HP easily because it will rev higher. my guess is torque will be 365-375. the 5.0 is replacing the 4.6/5.4 modular engine so production costs will go down once they retool plants to produce only the 5.0. the only V8s Ford will produce will be the 5.0 Coyote and the 6.2 BOSS, everything else will be duratec/ecoboost V6 and I4
