My Car Is Still Older Than I Am

I just bought a Camaro. This is my very first Chevy. Technically, this replaces my 2005 GTO which I flipped over 3 years ago (been "driving" a PT Cruiser as penance ever since if you can call that driving, more like pedaling).

I'm about to turn 50 in a couple of years so I guess I qualify as an Oldie McOldstein but I also have a 1957 Studebaker Silver Hawk which will, forever, be older than me.

I think we'd all like to hear the story behind the "flippin of the GTO". Welcome to the old farts section. Now Do tell.

Not much to tell really. It was July, I still had my autocross tires on but it was raining and I had to visit a client. On the way back home, I was going from one highway to another. On the banked entrance ramp, I grabbed a gear to get up to highway speed and the back end kicked out. By the time I got control back, I was pointed at a mound of dirt. I got the GTO stopped halfway up but then it turned slowly onto the driver's side door then eventually onto the roof. Most boring rollover accident ever.

Wow! That is hard to look at. I hope everyone got out O.K. I've been in two roll-overs. The first, I wasn't driving. Happened slowly like yours. Nobody got hurt. The second one, I fell asleep at the wheel. I was alone in the car. Drifted off the road, up an embankment, and at 50 MPH, the car flew and rolled. Thanks to the seat belt law, I stayed in the car. Everything else that wasn't bolted down, and some things that were, wound up strewn about on MD. Route 136.

Nothing quite like the feeling of having your feet on the pedals, hands on the wheel with the engine running and being upside down. I don't recommend it. The insurance company declared it a total loss and took my GTO away from me. I switched insurance companies right after they paid me.

No worries, it didn't physically hurt a bit. Once I figured out which was was up, I took that photo myself, probably 45 seconds after climbing out.
