Good to see an American car company win Car of the Year. It's a bonus to see GM win.....especially Chevy!

So if they ever say one thing that you disagree with, you can never ever agree with them again because they're always going to be wrong about everything?

The difference is this isn't a performance vehicle comparison; this is simply a nod at the technological achievements GM has made. Also, I don't see anyone praising motortrend but to the contrary just praising the Volt. The most remarkable things is that a magazine, who is well known for its odd winners in its comparisons, is actually giving a win to the one who actually deserves it this time around.

IIRC, the biggest complaint on all magazines around here is during the performance test(s) they all kind of suck when it comes to driving.

That's what is seems like some on here would have you believe. That's why I made the observation. Time after time after time ,I've read how we are not to trust these sort of magazines because they are full of fail. That's why I asked the question.

This very post reinforces what I was saying.

I've really never noticed such sentiments on here. Some disagree with whats said, and complain that a comparison had a BS result because of this, that, or the other thing. But I can't say as I've seen anyone be so biased against Motor Trend or any of the other major automotive magazines that they'll automatically disregard anything thats said in them.

I, like nearly all people on this forum, simply state that the magazines aren't the gospel when it comes to performance or being the overall better car. The latter is for consumers to decide, plus they do seem to be a good indicator of performance when it comes to average (and sometimes straight-up bad) drivers behind the wheel.

Fan-freaking-tastic!!!

This sort of reception is exactly what the company was hoping against all odds for. Given the sizable number of detractors...the fact that it's still managed to rise above the rabble is astounding!

And well-deserved!!! Congrats, Volt Team and GM!!!!

I'll take a quick stab at this one. I'm one of those people. I'd sooner use some of these magazines as toilet paper than a valid source of information. Much like how teachers feel about wikipedia for paper-writing in schools today....

But here's the thing -- they're still entertaining articles (which is what I feel their true purpose is), and many more people than I can possibly convince still read these things as gospel. Heck, even Chevy has got advertising going already quoting the Car of the Year award.

I don't have to fawn over it to acknowledge the publication's influence in the market/industry. And I know from other [in my mind] more reliable sources, that the car is as good, if not better than how magazines portray it to be.

So, obviously -- this is great stuff for Chevy and the Volt. My feelings aside.

Wait, I thought everyone hear hated Motor Trend....or is it odd/even years? 2009, loved, 2010, hated...now that it's 2011, it's back to love....confused.

Anyway, congrats to Chevy. I always like to see an American car win it. That's 3 out of the last 4.
