GM's IPO

Due to demand, GM is rumored to be raising it's IPO introductory price to $31-$33 range, raising sale returns from $10b to $12b. Now, if Ralph Nader doesn't stop the sale, this could really help GM polish it's image.

The parents and I are splitting the minimum 50 shares under the employee share purchase program.

Not thrilled about the price increase, but I'm still signed up for 400 shares.

Ford is at a 7 year high for stock price. I have a feeling it will pull back big; it's an ideal short candidate. Ridiculous amounts of debt on the balance sheet and big firms will probably be selling or shorting F upon GM's release.

Lucky you, internationally assigned employees don't qualify for the program.

Kinda early to say who's lucky.

I wish I would have been lucky enough not to own any old GM shares, which were flushed down the toilet. When someone makes my money vanish, the chance of me investing in them again is zero.

Here is how I look at any investing: you lose the money the instant you buy the stock (or whatever). From that point on, all that you can do is hope it goes up in value instead of down. There is never a gaurentee that it will go up, assuming otherwise is foolish.

Thanks, just wished I still had my old GM shares, would be a nice penny. Too bad they went away.

I don't want to own any GM stock but if I were inclined to buy some, it would be after the IPO smoke clears. The price of recently issued stocks can be rather volitile until after the IPO action dies down. Give it a quarter or two and take a look at the financials after that to see if you still like the prospects.

If you are just a GM fan and not an investor then go ahead and just buy some. Ask your broker to deliver a certificate rather than register it in street name. You can frame it and hang it on the wall.

-Mark.

F's quarterly looks solid, along with the chart and DD. . . A major pullback is unlikely. People told me to invest in GM rather than Ford in February of '09. I sold half of my shares and got an sti, the rest are holding until some consolidation so I can average down and hold for the long haul. F will see $30 by 2012. I would like to get some GM on the IPO, but it's a little steep imo. Next big bull will be Nissan imo.
