Now that I think about it, this would make a great base powertrain for the ATS but it would need more power.

Edit: the batteries only wiegh 65lbs, and its in the back and low to the ground, thats exactly where you want weight to be if you have to add it on a RWD Front engine sedan, the boost in Fuel economy is absolutely worth it.

Maybe, maybe not. The ATS is supposed to be a small midsize car right? If so, they could could get it to be 200 lbs lighter than the LaCrosse (large midsize/fullsize) without much issue. Without that added weight, and the boost from the eAssist, it could be very capable as a base engine for the small Cadillac.

ATS is reportedly getting a brand-new 2.5L I-4.

No one would buy a cadillac with under 200hp, especialy considering the competition.

You mean the competition that's considering the use of 4 cylinder engines in their smaller cars?

From what I'm hearing, the new 2.5L in the ATS will easily clear 200 HP.

And for anyone still doubting the "around $30k" pricetag, this is NOT a base CX model with a new powertrain. The exterior is more or less CXL-spec, and it would appear as though a touchscreen display is now standard inside the car, along with a revamped color LCD screen where the standard DIC once was. Plus, it seems as though the old steel wheels w/ wheel covers have been replaced by standard alloys.

That doesn't mean they will have under 200hp, they will probaly add F.I.
IMO the ATS with a powertrain like this but with 50 more HP would be a great base model if they can keep the wieght in check.

I am not much of a fan of the Lacrosse or Taurus (sans SHO) so i will Digress, but this drivetrain in a Cruze would kick ass. Ya know, i wouldn't be surprised to see this find it's way into the baby Cruze based Buick (I believe they are making that, right?), it would be a great way to differentiate the 2. It hold the title of most powerful Cruze AND best MPG. Let's see where this goes from here.

Verano is Astra-based, not Cruze-based.

And eAssist is reportedly very flexible, capable of being applied to small cars and SUVs. Regal and EpII Malibu will get it, might crack 40 MPG.
