Not everyone has or wants a Charger. My office is a 2007 CVPI with 87k miles on it. I average 250 miles per 12 hour shift, or around 2000-2200 miles a two week pay period. I love my car. It sounds good and it super throaty. Just that 4.6L really needs to wind up to get that lead sled moving though. It's a lot of car with not a lot of motor. They are the iconic American police vehicle and everyone knows what they look like. I happen to prefer it over anything else right now. I've always liked the for some reason. They're stout cars and can take an absolute ass whoopin' every day of the week and twice on sundays. I'm about to get a new one actually in a late 2010 or 2011 model CVPI. I'm proud to have the last of the true police package, RWD, V8s. And no, I do not want this new FWD or AWD Taurus. Not many agencies are gonna buy those with that twin turbos in them either. They're gonna end up with the basic 6 cylinder motor. Now a Caprice PPV on the other hand....

Hah. I find it funny that the police car I just started using in Need for Speed Hot Pursuit is a Taurus PI.

It looks ... interesting. But have have a really hard time understanding it. The concept is that it is 'inspired by the SR-71 stealth(y) aircraft'. Going beyond the obvious question of why the guy used the SR-71 as inspiration instead of the more iconic F-117 Nighthawk aka 'Stealth Fighter' ... I have some serous questions about it. Besides the fact that its black, how does it in any way resemble the characteristics of the Blackbird? Big black wheels don't exactly make your car inconspicous on the street (ie, stealthy), particularly if its on a Taurus. And I didn't see any mention of a Ford big block or an aftermarket tuning company cranking the power up to 20 psi or something else to make it fast.

I was on Oahu with the family on vacation this summer and as we were driving to the north shore, heard some sirens in the distance and getting closer. As I looked in the rear-view and saw nothing, I glanced up just in time to catch a very stock appearing pearl-white 300 SRT-8 (dark tint and hidden lights) and a blacked out (including powder-coated wheels, dark tint and hidden lights) Charger SRT-8 in what I would call "hammer down" pursuit mode. They were followed (at an ever-increasing distance) by a few full-dressed Crown Vic's ... Later that day, I also saw a silver Charger SRT-8 that had someone pulled over ...
I couldn't help but think "Man .. these guys have got it good!" |

Wonder about the power plant. Boosted 6 from the SHO or did they manage to cram an 8 in it?

It's supposedly a 3.? Liter V6 in the NA version. The optional motor is a 3.? TT that makes 350 h.p. stock. No one knows though how having twin turbos are gonna hold up to the rigors of running constantly, hot starts and quick shut downs. If Ford was smart, they would've dropped the 5.4 in the Crown Vics years ago. Or, at least a 4.6 that made more than 250 h.p, maybe one of the plants from the truck lines or a stang motor, but they didn't. The standard 4.6 being rated at 250/297 has really been unchanged for a few years and its a very durable, stout motor, they just dont make any power. You really gotta get'em moving to feel like you're going anywhere.
Ford could easily make that a RWD and drop a 4.6 in it. Then, I think agencies would take it more seriously. But they dont care about engine options, they care about the overall cost of the vehicle. If the Caprice is selling for cheaper, then the no brainer thing to do is purchase those. The agency I work for has 850 fleet vehicles so over time, and looking at the bigger picture, that's a lotta spread. Either way, I'll take another trusty CVPI that gets the job done.
