GM's Future?

I read today that the Chi-coms have bought 100% of a GM subsidiary (division that makes steering columns) and they're going to buy a large chunk of GM's stock in their upcoming IPO.

Something about this makes me uneasy. I see more US jobs being lost and intellectual property being stolen. At least America still has Ford I suppose

No way, a Chinese automaker that GM already owns a massive chunk of is also going to invest in GM? What a novel concept.

Just business as usual in the global automotive industry.

Yeah, big WHOOOP! Look at your house....Asian TVs/stereos, Asian lighting, Asian Ceiling fans, Asian throw pillows, Asian food.....any item, flip over and read...MADE IN CHINA....their everywhere....OMG! Think about this....if we (the U.S.) fall, then they will also fall soon after because they have too much invested in us. Without us who would they sell too...Europe, who is also dependent on the U.S.? Don't you think they know that? The Chinese/Asians know...they need us, they are hyper dependent on what the U.S. consumers can buy and afford. The U.S. is the Biblical "Babylon"....when we fall the entire World will shudder and cry.....thats a fact. Think about it.
As you said: "The Chi-coms have bought.....", well, I think its a wise investment.

U.S. and China is more like a interdependent relationship, we depend on them and they depend on us. If we fall apart, it would be a disaster for them, and if they fall apart, it would cause a disaster for us as well.

Today's world economy is very interconnected and if one big player falls, you will see a domino effect.

It's not just GM, but we are losing our grip everywhere. Closed factories as far as the eye can see, about everything we buy is foreign made, total loss of respect in the world, other countrys actually hate us, our allies are dwindling, etc. It's not rocket science folks, rather common sense, so why just point out GM? Most are not old enough to remember how it was just a very few short years ago when the USA was #1, not just here, but worldwide. If we can not handle our own debt as a nation, then why blame GM for trying to survive any way that they can? So, I will enjoy my Camaro until such day that it may become a Chinaro.

LOL! Chinaro

People fail to realize that America is losing it's manufacturing capability (e.g., our industrial base.) We can not be a 100% consumer society and survive for very long. Our days are numbered I'm afraid; even our president said last week that America is no longer the worlds economic leader. When your own leaders speak ill of you, clearly the country is spiraling down the drain.

Not as easy as that, GM & Ford originated in the US but now far from "all-american". They're global corporations and operate as such. I am pretty sure a lot of US 401k & mutual funds will also include GM stock... and nothing stops you from doing the same if you want.

Hell, I'm Canadian and I own plenty of US company stocks.

lol now there's over inflated self importance! US will not hit 'the end', it may not be like it was but that could also be a good thing. Not to get political but there's some tough choices to be made and to let the things that failed to go away.

Another reason why your gas is going up, since your main bank increased money supply that devalues the dollar and increases cost of commodities such as oil.

I just cant see investing hard earned money in a company that took taxpayer money and then closed plants thru out the country while at the same time investing in new plants overseas..
