They probably are, its just a matter of degree and whether or not you care about it. For example, most people don't care when a company lies and says something like "Our #1 concern at Widget Corp is you". No its not ... #1 concern is making money. If it means being nice, they'll be nice. If it means shafting you, they'll shaft you. Either way they don't actually care, so long as it maximizes profit. And we're all fine with it because in that particular case, we'd rather be lied to than told the truth.

There is a key distinction between the claim and what DGthe3 wrote:

When a company says their #1 concern is you- that's a very ambiguous thing to say and hard to confirm.

When a company says their vehicles are x $ cheaper to operate based on the following variables then these other cars- that should be pretty easy to fact check. I would expect that Toyota would be able to point to the source of this information, so really it's not the same at all.

I don't want to be that

What you have to decide is what is fact. When their bean counters spin it one way it makes their cars look better. When GM ,Ford or whoever's bean counter mod the numbers in their favor then, well their car looks better. It's just like Ford claiming that they have the number one selling truck 20+ years and counting. They forget to tell you that if you combine GMC with Chevy they don't. (at least not every year)

Not sure about Camry, but the Corolla I just compared next to the cruze has low milage tires, hubcaps that pull right off, no maintainence free battery, no 100,000 mile plugs, or fluids, and no timing belt that is kevlar reinforced. Toyota recommends replacing their timing belt at 60K for a cost of $600 and up.

Next, open a new Corolla, and pull the lever to fold the rear seat down. With the seat unlocked, shake the corner of the seat back. It is super flimsy.

No hood insulation.

I really never saw a Corolla until Yesterday......really, I'm surprised anyone would buy one!

Wow, my 2000 Camry I just replaced the timing belt even though I didn't have to, but at 83,000 miles and 10 years I thought it might be good. I have the hood linining. The original Dunlop Sport tires wore out on me long ago.

The timing belt cost at the dealer was about $300 with installation for that on the 2000 camry.

How does the GM rebadged Corolla look though? The Chevy Prism.
You probably know you drive a GM badged Toyota as well. The Pontiac Vibe. I just curious to know if you see any quality issues on your vibe, or the Prism if you have any.

I really hadn't looked at the current Toyotas that closely lately, but again, the folks on the Toyotanation forums commented on the lack of quality. I even remember guys at the service counter at the Toyota dealership saying something about how they have had less problems with my generation Camry than the newer ones. So that is something to think about.

Did you try dropping the Corolla's rear seat? It's too easy. The seat is basically fabric wrapped around a piece of cardboard. Alternatively, you can put someone into a Cruze where the seat has some mass to it and actually feels comfortable.

I was in an '09 Corolla over the summer and could not for the life of me understand why Americans were settling for such a heap of garbage. The printer on my desk has better quality plastic than that POS had.

Same goes for Civics. My friend's Civic Hybrid's interior is literally falling apart, and there isn't much of an improvement in material quality between my other friend's last-gen Civic and his dad's '08 Civic.

Japanese compacts are worthless trash compared to Cruze and the 2012 Focus.

I had the "joy" of driving an 09 Corolla for like 1000 feet lasst year. Frankly that is the quickest I have ever been able to know it was a car I would never buy. THe cheap materials, the impossible to get comfy in seat, the lack of power and the lifless steering, no thanks! I would even put the Caliber with it's vastly improved intrior for 10 way ahead of the Corolla. heck, i bet a KiA fORTE IS BETTER BUILT lol

The prism died long ago....

Yes, the vibe in theory is a Matrix.... but there are some differences. I didn't buy it for the features, but rather the price. I grabbed it at $11,400 for a 2009 AWD with 22K miles. Best used GM deal on the lot. What's even better, the GM warranty applies (and extended) far beyond what a Matrix would. I keep my cars 12-24 months.....it's transportation to me

Put two bowling balls in the trunk of a corolla.... Place four occupants in car. Go to 60 MPH. Slam on brakes. Take people in rear seat to hospital.

That's what I thought of the rear sear...and the fabric reminded me of pajama's at Target....same material.

The evasive turn video between the two was equally impressive.

My wife had a leased Prizm. It was actually quite a nice car. I do think it didn't have air conditioning though... It's been 3 cars ago since she had it.

I just wanted to know as a car dealer if you noticed that it was poor quality back then.

My Camry has been with me for 123 months. I'd like to keep the Camaro for at least that long, even though it is my daily driver.

Anyhow, back to the Toyota opinions. It sounds like I got one of the last of the good ones!
