No no, it's much closer to 89.7%, but 45.9% of the people that say that are full of it

Kind of. I didn't see the original ad, so I'm not really arguing. I know CR just came out with their car buyers guide, but I do not subscribe so I don't know what they had to say about it. If they got their numbers from someplace like that (CR, JD Powers, etc.), then their numbers could very well be wrong- but no other source exists to dispute it so they'll be 'right by default'. My training has always been you don't call someone a liar until you have the facts to prove them to be lying.

You are right about your training as I have been brought up the same way. What I meant was they have been proven to lie in the past so I really have no reason to believe here either. Another thing I was brought up on. Once a lair always a lair.

Well hell, if I believe the last sentence- then I'm going to run around thinking every company on earth is lying to me all the time.

You are correct, that was the Gen3 and Gen4 camry. Mine is as the folks over at TN call it a GEN 4.5 as it had the brighter headlights and redesigned tail lights.

I considered the GEN 6 (current model) camry as my next car. But hey I wound up getting the camaro instead, since I could use my dad's GM discount.

Your statement about the newer Gen 6 Camry's has been said before by members on the Toyotanation forums. The guys love their Gen 3's then see the cheaper metal on the GEN 6 and wonder.

I'm also curious to see how many years I can get out of my 2000 Camry. I still couldn't stand the 2002 redesign.

P.S. even though my dad worked for GM, we had 3 Toyotas. The 1976 Celica, the 1983 Tercel wagon, and the 1989 Toyota Corolla All Trac Wagon. All ran great, and I kind of wish my mom still had the 1976 Celica.

just like when manufacturers claim to be the best at "initial quality"... this tells me, it looks great in the showroom, but it'll fall apart by the time you get home...

There are probably a set of conditions that will legitimately put it ahead of the others. Just like how I can claim that my car can easily do the 1/4 mile in under 8 seconds ... so long as I start at 120 mph. Its still true, but not exactly honest either.

They probably are, its just a matter of degree and whether or not you care about it. For example, most people don't care when a company lies and says something like "Our #1 concern at Widget Corp is you". No its not ... #1 concern is making money. If it means being nice, they'll be nice. If it means shafting you, they'll shaft you. Either way they don't actually care, so long as it maximizes profit. And we're all fine with it because in that particular case, we'd rather be lied to than told the truth.

Oh ya, I know. I pretty much don't believe any ad copy on it's face. I don't really disbelieve it either. You just have to do as much research as the price of the object warrants and hope for the best. However the ad copy rarely outright lies, instead it takes whatever favorable info they can find -blows that out of proportion and then ignores the negative. I guess that's technically a lie of ommission.

The reason the Camry costs less to own is that you'll end up making money on the inevitable recall-related civil lawsuit when your vehicle goes careening off the freeway due to unintended acceleration.
