just in time to put the camaro away for the winter

So i also have an 03 dodge ram quad cab and it broke down saturday just as i was about to put the camaro away for the winter! Ok, so i may not say this correctly so please dont yell..lol..but the fan clutch for the air conditioner seized up and broke the serpentine belt! Im aware the belt will cost between $70-$80 to replace but i was told that usually when those lock up it means the compressor has gone bad!? I have a bad feeling this is going to be an expensive fix, but i hope im wrong!!!

Sounds like seized bearings (but I'm not a mechanic and I haven't seen your truck ) which would require a new compressor.

Check if they make a belt or option to bypass the ac unit. Some cars and trucks you were able to reroute the belt another way to solve a AC unit lock up. Its a short term fix till you got the time or cash to fix the AC unit.

actually thats what my dad had said before it went out, he said it sounded like a bearing was going out and eventually it would seize up, he just didnt know which pulley it was coming from and said his guess is that it would have been the idler pulley since thats the most common one to go out..so i guess by it locking up we found out which one it was for sure instead of replacing the wrong one..lol

Check out rockauto.com. Really cheap place to buy stock replacement parts like that.
