Tell her to define what a "muscle car" means to her before you start any debate. Then tell her what your definition of a "muscle car" is and ask why she thinks what she does.

This has been debated all over the site. Is it a muscle car? Is it a sports car?

In my opinion, who cares? It's a bad ass car that still gets looks wherever you go, and it goes pretty dang fast right out of the box.

To me, muscle cars are the "Big 3" high-horsepower cars built from the mid 60's to the early 70's. All steel bodies, no safety, drum brakes, 10 MPG, ill-handling, big horsepower, and preferably a manual 4-speed. I guess you can say today's cars are modern muscle cars but the TRUE muscle cars were back in the 60's/early 70's. It's all about perception....

There's a girl that knows her rides.

Really though it started even a little ways back from those cars. They were just at the height of the muscle car seen.

I just find the whole premise of this weird.

I mean, maybe because last year, I did two speeches in Communications class about cars, one about the Camaro and the other about the Volt, and my class and my professor had little to no knowledge about cars, so they just took what I said for the truth, despite any inaccuracies I may have had.

After reading everyone's responses, I would have to say that this is the most accurate description of what a muscle car was/is, IMHO...

I was fortunate enough to grow up with those muscle cars and while I was too young to own or drive one at the time, I saw plenty of them on the road...

Those were some fine automobiles back then...

Perhaps your professor is old enough to remember the original muscle cars and that is what she is referring to...

I agree with the idea of having a private chat with her to talk about cars...you might be surprised at what she knows...maybe she even owned one too...it would make an interesting conversation...

Good luck, and keep us posted about how it goes...

yea it really started with the MOTHER of all muscle cars the (tempest) Lemans (spelled it wrong the first time lol) that was supped up & made in to the GTO.

The Pontiac (tempest) Lemans was a family car that they slapped a big flipping V8 in to lol

Ok, with all this discussion, how do you guys feel about the Dodge Viper. What would that be classified as?

I sat in a 2010 today and spent about a half hour walking around it and getting the feel for it, by the way, It was AMAZING!! but really low to the ground.
