Story for your baby

Moral of the story.. maintain a lot of distance. I am SO GLAD I'm not driving Bumblebee or I'd be sooooooooooooooooo pissed cuz there was a pretty darn good chance it would have needed cosmetic surgery. From now on I'm driving at least 5 car length behind... or 10...........

I was driving south on 101. There was a big ass 4x4 block of wood in the lane. Car in front of me first to hit it I'm pretty sure. Went BOOM! I looked at the block of wood coming out under that car and the scattered pieces, thought OH SHIT i was maybe 3 car length behind it immediately checked my mirrors then swerved to avoid hitting it myself.

Just when I was all happy on my way back into my lane letting out breath I was holding two hub caps come flying off that car's rear wheels rolling toward me and I'm driving right at them I'm like WTF is this??!! I had no choice but to attempt to drive through between the two dancing steel plates cuz either way I turn I'm gonna hit one of them. So I had to swerve again to get me in the right position. Damn that was scary. Good thing the closest car behind me was about 5 car lengths or so away. Otherwise it's either I take the hit and hope for the best or swerve and risk hitting cars around me.

After getting off the freeway I inspected my car, didn't think I hit anything during all that swerving and -- NO NEW SCRATCHES! I went and bought a lottery ticket.

Good for you...wow, that must have been scary...

A couple of years ago, I was on the parkway (and maintaining a safe distance) when the SUV in front of me that had a sheet of plywood on the roof had the plywood fly off and land right on the road in front of me...since I was far enough back, I had plenty of time to safely change lanes to get out of the way...

A few weeks ago, I was on another parkway (and yet again, maintaining a safe distance) when a pickup truck with mattresses hanging off the truck bed had one of the mattresses fly off the back and land right in the middle of the road...again, I was able to safely get away...

A few years ago, my son and his friend were on their way to an amusement park about 100 miles from our house...the friend was driving...they were in the left lane when my son noticed a tractor trailer's gigantic tire right smack dab in the middle of their lane...the friend tried to swerve to avoid the tire and lost control of his car and they slammed head-on into the left lane concrete median...both airbags deployed...
While they were waiting for the police to arrive, they were sitting on the median with their car blocking the entire left lane...
The cop came and asked them if they were ok, and did they need to go to the hospital...(keep in mind they were 18 yr old KIDS that were probably IN SHOCK from the accident)...they said no, so the cop told them to wait there for a tow truck to come, while leaving them ALONE on the median in the left lane by themselves for 30+ minutes until the tow truck finally showed up...
I cannot believe the cop didn't stay with them and direct traffic away from where they were sitting in harm's way on the New Jersey Turnpike, a 6 lane highway with quite a bit of car and truck traffic...yikes!
Also, I think they should have gone to the hospital to be checked out...

Glad to hear you made it safely through the gauntlet!

I was doing 65-70 on my MC heading North on the 710 Fwy in the Bell Gardens area and
just ahead I see something shiny kinda just floating above the lane...
just as it hit the ground to the right of me, I discerned that it was a Hubcap!
Wow! Hitting that at 70 on a bike sure would have ruined my day.

Didn't hit the jackpot. Didn't match a single number. Oh well. At least I won't need the money for the car. The car that hit the wood definitely needs work. That was a bad hit. A bit scared driving through that spot again lol I might need money for a shrink!

Turning 30 in a couple of days gonna get me 30 quick picks I still think I got some luck going on here. Never knew I could drive like that!

Also beware - scrap metal haulers

I found out a couple of years ago to stay vary far away from scrap metal haulers.

Where I live they are becoming more common. They are old pick-ups with or without flat-bed trailers and normally loaded a mountain high.

As I was going to pass one of these vehicles (they also drive 45 in a 65), I watched the hammer size piece of metal bounce off the trailer and within a millisecond fly into my windshield. I was about 4 car lengths back when this happened and even though I recall it happening in slow-motion; I could not get out of the way!

Luckily the windshield stopped it and no damage was done to the body of the car. I pulled over the vehicle after the few seconds of shock wore off and the anger kicked in. They did not have any paperwork on them except a business card. I called their office manager and once I said, “They almost killed me!”; did they then try to do everything to correct the situation. From there I went straight to a repair shop (closest to my house) and got an estimate, where the repair shop called the office manager from the incident and got half the repair cost paid upfront. The next day I was back to new!!!

Now, when I see one of these vehicles, I do everything I can so to stay far away!
