But the fact remains I COULD never put an ounce of gas in it. as long as my drive between charges is less than 40 miles...

Every EV has a mileage problem right?

So GM gives you the option of using the ICE to augment the battery capability for those occasions where you may not have enough charge to get where you want to go.

So it's an option right.

I have the option of killing people but if I never do, would you call me a murderer??? It's my option?

yes I'm being sarcastic but you see my point. this one is not cut and dry in my opinion.
How you use the car does not change its design. I could leave my car in neutral and push it anywhere I like (the ground is reasonably flat around town ... ) so does that mean its no longer a gas powered car? Sure it is, I'm just not using the car to its full design potential. With your Camaro ... I don't know your exact driving habits, but I would guess you've never pulled a 0.9g turn in it. The car can do it, it was designed to do it, the car is supposed to do it. The fact that you yourself have never done it doesn't really matter.

again I disagree.

You could not feasibly push your car. that would be inefficient, you would be better off walking. you're car has only one option for propulsion as designed. gas. there is no other option. and your car was not designed to be pushed by hand. can you yes, should you no.

With the volt it is different. The Volt can run on electricity alone, it is designed to run on electricity alone and it should run on electricity alone when you stay within the mileage limit of a full charge.

Are you saying the inverse argument holds true as well. If I never choose to run my volt on charged batteries and only use the ICE as the power source, then the electric only option doesn't really matter?

Or is it that if I choose to only drive my volt less than 40 miles a day and I never use the ICE, that the ICE capability of propulsion doesn't really matter?

Again, you can't have the argument both ways. This one is different. The EPA sees the volt differently than any other "hybrid" or "EV" on the road. Hence why the Volt was given special attention when estimating the MPG.

Ooookay.. the Mexican lead investigator for the murder of that guy on the jet ski on the border..

Found by the lake, dead. Quite gruesomely I might add.

Who's up or lobbying deployment of troops to Tijuana (I'd so go on a hardcore regimen to be eligible)..

DG, let me be clear.

I don't care what it's called.

I'm simply trying to illustrate why it may have been touted as an EV. it is quite conceivable that the vast majority of commuters will never need a drop of gas.

I can see the point that GM could have just eliminated the confusion and said "hybrid".

The fact remains that it has the ability to be used exclusively as an EV to a large portion of the consumers.

Exactly. Ignoring the electric drive doesn't make it a conventional car, ignoring the ICE doesn't make it an EV. It was designed to use both therefore Its a hybrid.

Edit:

it was designed to use electric only , or both.

that's an important distinction in this case.

And yes I see the fact that is Has the ice, and the battery, it is inherently hybrid.

However, it is possible to be used exclusively as an EV? yes?
