I'm not really sure what the motivation is to call it an EV instead of a hybrid is in the first place. Why intentionally lessen what the car is? Seems sorta like insisting on calling the Camaro a muscle car. No, its better than that. The Poius and the Insight are better cars than the Leaf or MiEV are. The Volt is better than all of them.

In my opinion its like putting a blower on a V8. The blower doesn't make it NOT a V8, it just makes it a BETTER one. Just MHO.

Toyota has people convinced there is only 1 way to make a hybrid, when in fact there are two types of hybrid, series and parallel. If you can run gas only, electric only, or gas and electric you have a parallel. If you can run electric only, but use the gas engine to power the electric motors, its a series hybrid. The Volt is a hybrid. Supposedly, it was to be a series hybrid but it looks like it has a parallel capability too. Either way, its a hybrid and not an EV.

I could use the volt without any gas. I would be distance limited but I could do it.

But the fact remains I COULD never put an ounce of gas in it. as long as my drive between charges is less than 40 miles...

Every EV has a mileage problem right?

So GM gives you the option of using the ICE to augment the battery capability for those occasions where you may not have enough charge to get where you want to go.

So it's an option right.
