Chevy 572

Has anyone built a hot rod with the Chevy 572 crate motor? That thing is a freak'n monster! I can't imagine what you would have to do to an older Chevy to keep it from falling apart after that engine was installed. Anybody have any experience with this?

It is only 572 hp as well. Not a huge power house. For the same $$ you can get a pump gas version built with a Merlin block making 700-800 hp from a good builder. If you want a race gas high compression version will exceed 1,000 hp.

There are 620 hp and 720 hp crate versions. The 720 requires race fuel.

I have a friend that has the 620 hp version crate motor in a 70 Chevelle. For a street car you can put pump gas in, it's freakin unbelievable.

Chassis wise, you need all the good stuff. A built transmission, custom driveshaft, 1 ton u joints... He has a 12 bolt with a Moroso Brute Strength posi diff, built turbo 400, 33 spline axles, 4.10 gears... huge aluminum radiator... fuel cell, big pump, 1/2 inch fuel lines...

oh yeah, they are built right. All forged rotating assembly crank, rods, pistons... a big cam that really lopes. I've seen a few 572s at shows and drag strips running nitrous. Being a forged bottom end, it's going to be strong.
