If Blur is correct and the Z28 is historically more about handling, I think there is one option no one has considered yet. How about A Camaro Z28 with a twin turbo version of the V6 that has forged internals, and the Z28 emphisis is on lower curb weight. Now before anybody stones me Think about it, The results would be depending on boost a little over 500hp, curb weight of 3600lbs maybe, Good fuel economy, the price would be about $40,000 which under cuts the GT500 substantialy. How about it??

Ford has been toying with a twin turbo EcoBoost system for the Mustang. It will have comparable performance with the GT. There's no reason that the Z28 can't be that sort of alternative to the SS. All GMPP has to do is play with the LLT. It would take a little tuning and development, but this is a very realistic compromise with the green image that GM is trying to make and the performance enthusiasts that want GM to stay ahead of the competition. For some people, the V8 rumble isn't as important as performance, and we all know that supercharged and turbocharged factory cars have lots of tuning and upgrade options in the aftermarket. A TTV6 Z28 would hit with a splash in all markets, including the ones that focus on emissions.

The reason Ford can make a top dog like the GT500 without hesitation is because they don't have their own sports car they are forced to compete with by producing it. GM could, in theory, produce a ZL1, Z28, whatever the heck you want to call it, but it would be in the low-mid 40's at the cheapest, which happens to be the base price for Corvettes. Ford doesn't have that problem, and they capitalize on it by building what is unquestionably the most powerful production muscle car in existence. As a result, all the people who want the most power of all the new pony cars have no choice but to get a GT500. It's a pretty brilliant move by Ford, I say.

Personally, I'd love to see Ford make a Corvette competitor. If they were somehow able to take the body style of a Ford GT and make it into a $50,000 sports car, I'd take a dump on my Mustang and buy one tomorrow.

I know it's against tradition and everything being "a V6". A few people...well no. A lot of people would be pissed...but I like the idea a lot.

I'm actually surprised they didn't whore out the name of the Z28 by putting it on the V6.
