Well I ordered one of these key cards and have been having issues with Paypal for over a month trying to activate it. Their customer service is HORRIBLE. I have sent over 6 requests to have an issue with my card being LOCKED to get resolved. All they keep doing is posting instructions on how to activate the card. I have attempted their activation procedure well over 6 times and every time it tells me the card is locked. These people dont know how to listen to your issue. They just respond with a pre-generated block of text and say have a good day.

It probably was not a person downloading stuff, but a program written by that person. I hate to say it, but most of the people who do stuff like this are not doing it to get things, but simply to mess with people. So the program is scripted to just randomly make purchases/downloads as quickly as possible.

Did you call them???

All of that emial stuff is mostly automatic, a computer reads it then send you a scripted answer. Just like ebay.

You do the I wanna call through support section, it gives you a special code to get right in within the hr.

Called and emailed. They all seem to be reading from the same script :(

hm... does anyone know they hacked into JUST the itunes account, or did the hacker have to get into the PC and THEN into the itunes account? Password on my PC is heavy duty, so I'm not as worried about that being hacked.

I don't think they went through any of my PC's because they are all at my house and nobody knows any of my passwords.

It's a conspiracy I tell ya...

I travel all the time for work all over the country. We signed up for the bank notifications to get sent to my email for every card transaction. It's not exactly when the charge was made, but usually within a day.

Also, set up a debit card not linked to my other accounts. We put funds in the account as needed. Sure... we keep a little money in there, just in case. Just not enough to hurt us while we are disputing the charges. Most banks will give you an account without monthly charges if you have $25 or $50 / month direct deposited into that account. So, it really costs nothing for this protection. It sucks to have to go online and transfer funds into an account to use it, but not as much as getting hit for thousands and eating PB&J until they decide to get your money back to you.

When you install anything on your computer that requires software, run a scan to check for keyloggers. Those bastards can get your password as you type it. I have found keyloggers in software that come with hardware, too.

I haven't had a chance to thoroughly digest your post, but this is a good place to start: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/idtheft/consumers/defend.html

Basically, use a reputable credit card on the Internet and keep a close eye on purchases. Another good practice is to only use one (with a low balance) for internet purchases so that you won't be cut off for local or travel purchases.

Also keep your PC patches up to date and never surf with an admin account.

I'm a security guy and could go on all day, but a few basic precautions can go a long way.

I know this sucks! I was on the road and found out that both my personal cards were compromised while on a trip. Luckily I had enough cash to buy hot dogs until I got home and got it straightened out. It was pretty easy with reputable card companies, but not real pleasant trying to get it done between flights.

Oh, they can hack the passwords. That's why I never leave my computer on during the day while I'm gone, or if I'm not going to be using it for a few hours I shut it down. Of course, I also have a 16 character password with numbers and symbols thrown in, so it's going to take a while for someone to brute force their way in

Yea, I learned my lesson the hard way as well and had to change it to something similar. It's gonna take years to crack our passwords

Unless the government really wants to see what we're doing...
