Yes their merging the falcon and mustang platform.
the Falcon platform isn't any heavier than the mustangs.
This will give them a RWD Lincoln variant and IRS to the mustang.

Who cares. It's a mustang ,and it's over three years away.

The camaro is getting a make over in 2015 so that doesn't really surprise me that Ford is doing one first.

I don't think we'll see something as radical as he would make it seem. The Mustang is one of Ford's best sellers; in the business world you'd be a damn fool to alter that formula.
