I have no problem affording the top of the line Camaro. I went with the V6. As a daily driver, all year round car, the V6 just fits better. Plus with a Vette in the garage, it just isnt necessary. Now when, and if, the Vert comes out, the Vette may be replaced with the top dog VERT.

Ummm no,it wasn't. You got your Shelbys mixed up. The 319HP Shelby GT was matched against the STI and while it lost out to the Scooby,it was hardly laid to waste,it was just a few tenths behind the more purposeful AWD rally car. It's basically an apples to oranges comparision, but Edmunds had good things to say about the Shelby as well. It's just whatever you're into.......AWD rally car or Muscle car, both are fun and will put a smile on your face.
I have no problems with a V6 pony car. I've had 2,but i think if you are wanting a V8 Camaro or Mustang,it would be a huge mistake to go for the V6. You will always regret it the whole time you have the car,it's the same for anything. If you want a Bullitt, but settle for a GT or want a M3 or settle for a 328i. It's not about cylinders or engine size,it's about what YOU want and how patient you can be to wait for it. If you WANT a V6 Camaro, great, wonderful, but if you are pining for a SS and you can't wait so you buy a V6..........BIG MISTAKE. I don't care how good it is.

That's exactly right. Of course, we all need to be balanced and reasonable about what we buy. If we really want Gallardos, we'll be saving for our lifetimes, but when it comes to attainable domestic muscle cars, it isn't appropriate to settle. The people that don't care about their cars—not anyone on these forums because we're all fanatics—may get some inspiration driving the V6 because it is so glorious. They'll help fuel a strong aftermarket for those of us who wanted Camaros from the beginning. Those who love that 300-hp bracket and compare it to cars in the horsepower range will be elated to drive an American competitor to those Japanese powerhouses. The V8 is simply for those who can't compromise.

I want to add that it really won't matter to most drivers. We aren't all going to the track to race these beasts, so getting a V8 and not unleashing it is almost wasteful. It'll have that kick when you accelerate to the speed limit, but I think that the V6 will have plenty of that as well. For those of us who really need that power, we can't compromise with the V6. That doesn't mean that the V6 is any less amazing. These V6s look virtually the same as V8s, so many appearance packages and other accessories will go nicely with any LS or LT.

It's about priorities. If your sound system is more important than your horsepower, then you should save some dough for the music and get a V6. I'll be sacrificing the sound that I used to have for the power because I've had that in my Cobalt but was never satisfied with the roar. For me, a V8 is necessary. For those who want a fun, affordable ride for college or work, the V6 is more than impressive.

I like the looks of the car. Pure and simple. I will never have the fastest car around. No big loss. I will not stress when retards pull up next to me to "race". I am going to get a dailey driver that I like and thats that. The V6 will do me fine. Yes its got alot of juice for a V6, but its not a "muscle car." Yes some might call it a "pony" but I prefer "sports" or "performance" car. "Muscle Cars" bring to mind me the cars of the 60's. I feel that the use of the word today is not as it should be. Just like when people call all cotton swabs "Qtips" and self adhesive bandages "Bandaids". Some words that I will hear and use, "Badazz" "Sweet" "Awesome" "nice" and "WOW"

Good thread. I would have never considered buying a V-6 Camaro...until now. Lets face it....and be honest. This 304 hp V-6 will blow away your daddy's 68 Camaro...in the sprint and top speed. Can you say 155 mph?

I may yet get the V-8 and go for the gusto....but man alive, this V-6 can go 0-60 in 6.0 seconds. That is fast.

No shame at all in the V-6. Will the 8 sound better? No doubt. Faster? No doubt.

Get what you want, and be happy.

I am actually very excited about the V6. At first, I wouldn't give it a chance, but when I heard it was the DI 3.6, I changed my tune. The V-6 is no "muscle-car" but it's going to be a very adequate and well-balanced sports car. It'll provide ample fun in both driving and looks, and it won't and arm and a leg. Honestly, think of another car that is rear wheel drive (with a limited slip IRS no less!), has 300+hp and a 6-speed manual for under 24g's (yes, I'm buying the 1LS because I hate automatic seats and I just don't need the other crap weighing me down). The V-6 car is the budget-minded enthusiasts dream. I'll still make fun of past gen V-6 F-bodies and any Mustang (6 or 8 cyl), but I really think the "base" V-6 Camaro is going to surprise a lot of people.

I plan on buying a 2011 model and am going to spend time with the V6 and V8 before purchase but I'm expecting to end up with the V6.

I have no plans on taking it to the track and I invision it as a daily driver. I have a Chevy Avalanche now and I don't feel the need to have two gas guzzlers. The Avalanche probably averaging around 15-16mpg @87 octane makes the V6 w/86 octane look a lot more attractive than the V8 running super.

Another deciding factor will be if I keep the Avalanche as a 3rd vehicle or if I replace it with the Camaro. If I'm replacing I might lean towards the V8.

So we'll see...
