The performance of porsches are severely limited by tradition, as evidenced by the pretty hard whoopin the ZR1 just gave the Turbo in just about every category in the comparison. the one category that the porsche won was also the single category where a rear engine set up would be preferable.
True, to an extent. But what I was getting was that RUF can practically ignore things like durability, fuel economy, cost, and emissions, things that even limited manufacturers like Porsche can't really do.

True, but you're also ignoring a certain 911 that adheres to tradition and puts a whooping on the zr1.

And as for the v8 swap, what is the cost for that?w

Where's the Cherry Picking??? I posted a RECENT article of the ZR1 vs the 911Turbo from MT.. U decided to try an find reasons why a $150K car should be compared with a $120K car because the $150K car was at an unfair disadvantage.

Dude U support your country while I'll support mine. In this comparo... the American CHEVY.. beat the European PORSCHE.

We are, and continue to be.. BETTER.:flag2:

You guys missed the part where I pointed out that HeHasReturned is nothing but a contrarian. After seeing his posts in several threads it's clear he is here to be argumentative and nothing more.

Christmas is coming up if any of you wants to get me either car...

Man, I just love cool cars. Both of those cars are cool. Split hairs all you want on the definition of supercar.

...and just curious- I'm not disputing you on the lighter and smaller part lil_chef, I just don't understand how a v8 could mount lower in the car than a flat 6? That's the lowest profile I can think of.

Porsche as a brand is better than GM by far.
Car for car.

You love Gm and yet they screwed share holders. Employees and American public.

I'll buy the z28 when it comes out but I know exactly what I'm getting in the brand.

is the GT2 RS the one that puts a whooping on the ZR1? the car with no creature comforts, racing seats w/ harness, has a 150 product run and costs much much more than even a regular GT2? yup, its slightly faster, but if chevy were to come out with a vehicle of the same caliber (essentially a street legal C6-R with a zr1 engine) the contest wouldnt even be close.

im not sure on the cost of the V8 swap as i dont really ask my dad prices when i go visit, i find that to be rude i can imagine its not cheap at all though

You are the one who brought up Same Specs comparisons...And then you turn it around and say no two cars have the same specs. I don't understand what point you're trying to make by flip-flopping, so I'll just leave it at that.

Oh, and btw, those speaking about the cayman, I couldn't agree more, they definitely need to make a 400+hp variant of the car, I'd be willing to bet it'd spank everything. If anyone wants to see some sick caymans, look at what kind of power tpc is getting out of them by turboing, it's pretty cool.

EDIT: Chef, your dad should definitely look into this, much better alternative than engine swap.

How is that flip-flopping in the least? IIRC, it was you shouting it should have been compared to the GT2 because it is 600HP+ and RWD (Same Specs) like the ZR1. Let me try and simply this for you: Same Specs comparison(s) can not work considering there are no two cars that use the exact same route to achieve their desired performance.

Well, just since you dragged this crap into it.

a) They don't compete car for car, they compete in a single car line. You can't compare GM vs Porsche, you really need to compare GM versus all German made cars to really come close to having a line up for line up comparo.

b) Porsche's management screwed up huge-literally one of the worst screw ups by any management ever. The debacle where they tried to do a hostile overtaking on VW and VW did a Judo Flip and now owns Porsche is a LEGENDARY piece of mismanagement. It's actually studied in business school as a cautionary tale.

c) Porsche's seems to have pulled themselves out of their tailspin, but they had some real quality control issues with the 996's and first four years of Cayenne's. It gets worse if you go all the way back to the 914/924s. In fact, with the 996s Porsche looked to Toyota for help with cost cutting and got themselves in a mess with binned parts, etc. breaking a lot of loyalty.

So if you want to measure a boutique <5k a month unit manufacturer against GM as a whole, go ahead. I'd actually say (b) was worse for Porsche than 2009 was for GM.

*edit* I still want a GT3 though, and I always will. So I aint really knocking Porsche, just keepin' it real homiez.

aaaah.. What BIGEARL said.

OH.. and aren't we all tired of hearing about how SHAREHOLDERS in a company got screwed??? The irony is that while people like U hate the Administration for supposedly trying to make everything FAIR.. U cry about things like GM stock becoming worthless.. as if the Shareholders, as INVESTORS, didn't realize that INVESTING is a risk in and of itself.

Yeah.. I love GM... and GM has made me thousands upon thousands of $$$$ over the years, but I, being an experienced and attentive investor, saw the writing on the wall in July of '08.. and SOLD SOLD SOLD. Not just GM either.

The America PUBLIC got screwed??? How so?? Even if GM didn't ever pay back it's loan... it saved the American people from an extra 1 Million+ on the AMERICAN unemployment lines, $50 Billion doesn't even come close to what that loss would have been.

What bewilders me is that people like U believe that the Federal Gov would have taken the money it gave to GM as a loan.. and sent it to U as a gift. They wouldn't have... they would have spent $10 Billion of it a month... on a war somewhere we don't need to be.

OH... U say they are already spending it on a war we don't need to be?
