I picked up a great deal at Costco on my Nikon Coolpix for about $150. It's a totally awesome camera and fits in my pocket. It's more than I could need for my casual photo taking. I've had it about 2 years worry free.

Just go to Costco and get your self a camera for about $200.00. they have a good selection and they take good pictures. Most of their camera's you can put in your pocket. Here is an example.

I have a canon 400d digital slr, it's a real nice camera. Or maybe the rebel xsi or xti.
Nikon makes some nice cameras too. The D40 and 60's are nice. |

I own some high end photo stuff, but for a good walking around camera that I also have I would recommend Canon.
Canon Powershot SX20 IS About $400 http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consum...ershot_sx20_is Here is an example :

In order to really help you here, we need to know the maximum you want to spend on a camera (plus batteries/memory card/etc...).
$100 will get you a cheap pocket camera. $200 will get you a nice pocket camera. $300 will get you a decent non-SLR super zoom camera. $500 will get you an entry level digital SLR.

Hahaha... I freaking love Costco! But seriously, for $150-200 the Nikon would be a great and easy choice (plus headache free). You'll be snapping quality pics in minutes.

If you want better quality you have to go with a digital SLR. I have a Canon XTI and a Canon Elan (film). For convenience go with a pocket camera unless you have a lot of expendable money.

newegg.com -> digital cameras -> your price range -> sort results by reviews -> pick a highly rated purty one.
SLR's are generally wasteful unless you are getting more serious about photography as a hobby
