as for that last line... I didn't understand what U were saying.
This thread turned into crap some time ago.

1. You get the nutjobs that complain about the GT500 winning the heads up comparison with the Vette from a mag.
2. Same people who can't grasp that the Vette and GT500 are not in the same class of cars or same price category but performance is nearly identical.
3. Same people who fail to understand that dumping the price difference between the GT500 and vette to bring the cost to the same levels would result in a far superior car with the GT500.
4. The GT500 will always be superior to the SS. It would require far more than $2K in the SS to even come close to the GT500 in performance. Need to step into the Z28 if you want an accurate/valid justification for comparison.

I still don't get 3. I mean honestly, if being faster than another vehicle is that important to you then you could spend $15K-$20K on a Civic Hatchback and run circles around both the Camaro and GT500. Stock vs. stock is where some level of fairness comes into play.

It's about leveling the playing field, not about spending infinite amounts of money on a go kart to make it "fast". Fairly simple concept.

1) I will admit.. I'm a NUTJOB.. but the GT500 DIDN'T WIN the comparison. LOOK AT THE EFFIN NUMBERS.

In the SPRINT (0-60) The Vette beats the GT500 despite having 114 less HP.
In the 0-100 they equal
In the 1/4 the Vette gets there first
In Top Speed.. the Vette Continues on an additional 45 MPH after the MUstang is left gasping for air on the side of the road.

IN Braking the Vette Beats it...

Only on the Skid pad does what is essentially the Low end Vette lose to the TOP END Mustang.

Hell This happened last time before Ford upgraded the GT500 with an extra 10 ponies.

2) The Vette apparently competes with everything.. since Magazines like Road and Track went so far as to compare it with a lowly Mustang. If it will make U feel any better, they did the same thing last month by putting the Proletarian two door super-charged coupe up against a Bourgeois Luxo s/c Coupe (which gets the same numbers as my Sedan) and the Luxo Coupe BEAT THE SHIT outta the Ford. Weighing several hundred pounds more no less.

3) The Difference in these 2 specific cars is irrelevant since the Grand Sport tested is optioned out the ass. Take a BASE Vette at $48,950 and do the same test with the GT500 at $48,645 and the results would have been damn near the same. The GS has some upgrades but it's true differences lie in the looks and suspension. Pretty much a Wide Body Z51 with Launch control.

4) Bullshit. and to be honest.. the Z28 is gonna bet the competitor to the GT500 anyway.. and then we'll see. The SS is a GT competitor and the SS beats it. The only place the Mustang currently beats the Camaro is in the area of V6s.. where the lighter Ford has the advantage of weight and gearing allowing for better times.

In the end tho... the as U can see... that gearing stops the V6 (113MPH)at speeds less than my old G6 could go.. while the Camaro continues on to 157MPH.

Mostly because his argument (which is a correct one) negates your point...

Where is this 45 MPH number that you got? And they clearly can't drive because the gt500 is capable of much better than a 12.7.

Actually, the GT500 did win that particular comparison, regardless of your denial. "After the dust had settled, the Ford Shelby GT500 came out as the winner."

BTW, the numbers above are apparently from previous year GT500s? Car and Driver ran the 2011 GT500, and ran 12.4@117.... so much for the effin numbers.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t500-road_test

At the test track, we recorded 0 to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds, 0 to 100 in 9.1 seconds, and the standing quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds at 117 mph. Our last 2010 test car ran those sprints in 4.5, 9.6, and 12.7 seconds, respectively. The 70-to-0 braking took 151 feet, an improvement from 165. Grip came in at an impressive 1.00 g, with far less understeer than the last car’s 0.91-g effort. Those numbers are right up with a Corvette Grand Sport’s and better overall than the last BMW M3 we tested.

Also we know the GT500 will run 184.xx mph before it runs out of gear. Not a drag limited top speed.

I am smart enough to give the Corvette props, and to recognize a great performing car, But it seems some people are having trouble reciprocating that feeling towards the GT500.

Maybe it's fanboism, Maybe it is a loyal allegiance, or maybe it's a combo of the two. But as a TRUE AUTOMOBILE enthusiast, I can honestly say both are stellar machines that performs very well.

Reading comprehension isn't your strong suit huh "BRAAH?" I clearly stated that "Hell This happened last time before Ford upgraded the GT500 with an extra 10 ponies"

I swear.. it says it right there, even in our quote from me.

Even worse is the fact that after the dust settled in that contest.. unless U are in denial.. THE VETTE CLEARLY WON

Maybe it's REALITY thrown in with a dose of so many being on a Camaro/Chevy Forum trying to pump up a FORD.

RIIIGHT, like there aren't BASE C6 owners that can't clearly get their cars below 12.5. Hell I kno of cats with the LS2 who were pulling in 12.4, on RUNFLATS no less. A Vette like my Z51 with PS2s will eat a GT500 alive posting those numbers.

That's still not faster than the 12.4 that Car and Driver got with the 2011 GT500...

Or the 12.02 that Evan Smith got out of the 2011 GT500.
