Point is U can't compare prices of optioned cars as tho it were a determinant. U compare base prices
But if both cars were optioned the same.. than it would appear that the cheapest one would be the better buy

And you get what you pay for.. and the GT500 interior is way better than the GS

And I agree with the Fact that if you was to put another 13k into the GT500.. it will murder almost everything on the road.. shit all it takes is 5

it negates both.. the advantages of one run counter to the disadvantages of the other. End the end scenario.. a Pully Swap on a Vette would CONTINUE to murder anything on the road.

Hell.. a simple upgrade of $2K over this tested GS and U have a Z06.. which has murdered almost everything on the road.

how about we do a little real world math:

2011 gt500 weight: 3820
2011 cts-v coupe: 4255

2011 gt500 hp: 550
2011 cts-v hp: 556

are you going to tell me that by some magic... the cts-v coupe is making up for 435lbs of weight with only 6hp?

what your seeing in the video is exactly what motor trend wants, you to get all excited that you bought the better car. next month, the gt500 will win so the other side gets theirs.

dont be a dullard when it comes to believing what you see on the internet... makes you to be a fan boy.

p.s. the only advantage that the cts-v series actually carries that helps with 0-60 and 1/4 miles is the gearing...

first gear on a cts-v coupe is 4.15 with a 4.05 final!

hope you like your 12mpg...

Look here money.. the V beat the GT500 in that video.. and based on every performance number I've see posted by the two cars.

As for the Fuel Economy of my 2-3K mile a year Cadillac "Toy"... I effin LOVE the 12/18 MPG. I don't even notice the fuel gauge until it says LOW FUEL.

I bought the V6 Camaro to feel like I was being GREEN

I thought it was ROAD and TRACK.

And the CTS-V Sedan got 12.2 @ 119 mph in the 1/4 mile from Car and Driver as well.

I'm sorry if a 4door Cadillac Luxury car is out there whipping the ass of the lighter Mustang GT500... I kno it damages your ego here on this Camaro/Chevy forum that U troll... but deal with it.

pre 2011 GT500s run 11s stock from the factory at over 121mph.

Where has the CTS-V ever done that?

That isn't the question.

I want to see where CTS-Vs have run 11s in stock trim?

I won't be holding my breathe.

My guess is when the weather cools down and Evan takes the 2011 GT500 back to the track he will be able to get 11.7 @ 122 mph out of it stock.

Also,, food for thought, look at the trap speeds. That is a good indication of who has more room for improvement on ET in the 1/4 mile.

Both are great cars. If the Vette would get a facelift, and an interior change, i would be more inclined to want one, but as of right now, the GT500 has more of my attention. Both are out of my price range at the moment. Maybe in about 5 years, when I get rid of some debt and save up some money. I might be looking more at these cars.

This thread is so long because everyone expects a runaway victory by the more pricey 2-seater. The GT500 has matched or surpassed the vette's performance while retaining it's advantage over the vette in everyday liveability. Trap speeds indicate the Shelby has more power (i.e. leaves the vette for dead from a roll). My advice to vette shoppers, either buy the Z06 or wait for the C7, the C6 has become an easy target........

I wouldn't say that.. more like an achievable benchmark for future heavy sports cars

Actually, I would argue that you see a lot more 'strictly by the numbers' arguments than the opposite.

Really? You've got a gift for extrapolating things from the op's initial post I missed.

Usually it's all of those things and more, for reasons which I would argue are obvious.

I'll agree, because you apparently value performance above all else and as such diminish major flaws with the C6 in the process. Unless the Corvette really trips their switch for reasons that cannot be quantified (fascination with the name, etc) I don't imagine a lot of folks are going to be clamoring for a car with the truly major shortcomings the C6 currently lives with compared to other new cars, even cars of the same ilk. (a base Boxster is a virtual palace inside compared to any C6) Of course, the fact that sales numbers tell exactly that same story doesn't hurt.
