BTW does anyone know why it isn't called the GT540?
SVT is redoing the suspension for the GT500, so it will handle better than most people think it will.

As for the seats, the GT500 has always been an interesting case. From looking at pictures, even the current one looks like it doesn't have side bolstering at all. However, when you sit in the car, the seats actually have a good bit of bolstering and are VERY comfortable.

It's called the GT500 because it's paying homage to one of the coolest cars ever known by mankind, the 1967 Shelby GT500.

The old Shelby names are meaningless. Unlike the Datsun/Nissan Z or most Bimmers, where the names call out the engine size, the GT350 got it's 350 from the distance in feet from one Shelby building to another as the story goes. So,500 sounds better than 350 so that's your big block name. The name didn't match the power(not that it's supposed to)until the '07. Shelby said if a car is good,a name won't matter and if the car stinks,a name won't save it.

With anywhere from $10k-$15k we'll save getting an SS versus GT500, plus whatever the GT500 dealer markup is, we'll have more than enough $ to spend on some goodies, shouldn't be too hard!

As I said earlier, I have no doubts there are GT500's out there that weigh 3900+ pounds. Do the math. Let's say a GT500 with he same options as mine, in stock form, weighs 3840 lbs. Add the 80 or so pounds to that for the Shaker 1000 stereo and, viola, you get a GT500 that weighs 3920. If I recall, that is the official curb weight reported by Ford and verified by other non-Ford organizations.

I'm just saying that not all GT500 issues are of equal weight. What's funny is that you see people, usually the ones who want to bash the car in some way, posting up weights on the GT500 like "4000lbs" or "4100lbs", which is just disingenuous and unfactual.

I understand what your saying, however my advice for you is never go to law school. When you change a constant, everything changes, for instance your car is different from the 'constant' which we'll call 3920lbs, because you didnt 'fully load it'. So comparing your 3850lbs to a constant like the Camaro's Curb Weight yields useless results, as that curb weight takes into account a 'fully loaded' Camaro.

So huff, puff and blow the house down but it doesnt prove anything.

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

im not going to say that went over your head but you might want to reread the last few posts.

im not saying the GT500 cant possibly weigh that much, im saying you cant say that the GT500 weighs "LESS than the Auto or Manual Camaro" like was stated above when your comparing a not fully loaded car to a fully loaded car.

I heard that 70COPO just got a job working for SVT and is the lead design tech for the stripes on these cars. He said they would go the full length of the hood, down the bumper, across the oil pan, down the bell housing, onto the tranny pan, Single stripe down the drive shaft, back into two stripes across the third member of the diff and terminate on top of the license plate.
