C5 Corvette build quality

Hey guys, might pull the trigger on a 99 Corvette. However, I've had some friends tell me the build quality isn't so great on the C5. Anyone know anything about this?

The build quality is definitely lower than a 5th Gen Camaro, but then again, anything made by GM before like 2005/6 or so has that issue. Yes there is a column lockup problem but just get the bypass (its only on MT cars), takes 20 minutes to prevent.

Otherwise mine was a great car (2000 Z51, Black/Black, 6 Speed), and I put 100k very hard miles on it and it was still going strong, only sold it to buy my Camaro.

It's quick..you'll find the build quality to be a shave under your current Mustang, but still well made.

On a subjective scale of 0-10, with 0 being a Geo Metro and a 10 being a Supercar..I'd give it a 4, with the 5th gen Camaro being a 6, the Challenger a 6 and a the 2011 GT Mustang a 6.5

I love how most non Camaro guys ALWAYS put the Camaro lower than the others!!!! Also, Most post by the same are always negitive and are quick to protect anything about the Mustang!!! I shake my head everytime. If you don't see this, go back and read your post!!!

I rated the Mustang slightly higher because in comparing the 2SS and GT Premium I found the Mustang to have less sharp edges on the plastic, less creaks and better seams/stitching/fit. In my mind that is why I rated the Mustang a half point better in terms of interior.

I would understand being a bit upset if I said the Camaro was a 4, the Challenger was a 6 and the Mustang was an 8..but it was 6/6/6.5...

Again, personal *opinion*. I rated the Challenger and Camaro the same.

Part of me is thinking it might be a better idea to wait until the C7 comes out so it'll drive down the prices of a C6.

I had an 04 C5 vert, and while I loved that car, the parts bin interior and gaps I could put my hand through between the dash and doors really took away from it being the car it was supposed to be. No mechanical issues in 30k miles. Rear tire wear was an issue for some reason...

Honestly I have heard more people complain about the C6 than I did with the C5.
