Excited about a V6?

Call me old-school or simply living in the past, but I cannot understand how so many people in this day and age can get excited about a V6 musclecar? Contrary to what you may think, based upon the car in my signature, this is not a rant about the V6 Camaro in particular, but V6 versions of the musclecars in general. The term "V6 musclecar" is an oxymoron, anyway, in my humble opinion.

How did we get to the point in the automotive hobby where the sound of a V6, in any iteration, is music to our ears? Have we so emasculated ourselves that a natuarally-aspirated V6 version of a car is now something that a performance car enthusiast desires and not simply settles for? It is a sad day indeed.

I can understand the fact that not everyone can afford the V8 version of their car of choice (if a V8 version is even offered) but the incessant babble about how great that car is/will be, drives me crazy. To me, and this is only my opinion, so don't get bent out of shape if this rant hits home to you personally, if I were looking to buy a V6 version of a Mustang. Camaro, Challenger, etc., I would abstain from discussions about how well it is going to perform and speculation on how many V8-powered cars it is going to be able to hang with/beat in terms of performance.

To those of you who really desire the V8 version of your favorite pony/musclecar, but do not have the immediate means to buy one, I suggest you resist he urge to buy a V6 version of the same car just to say you own one and work to save the money/build the credit to get what you really want versus settling for second-best.

/rant off

And to add to that. For an example I want a V8 real bad but if the finances don't work I rather have the V6 then no Camaro at all!

Beyond both of those points, you have to think about the HP that even the V6 is putting out. 300HP+ in a V6 is pretty damn impressive. The V8s of the 60s-70s would have loved to have that kind of power. I certainly agree that the V8 versions of these cars is the best, but the V6 is no slouch.

But that's just it, in the past, there used to be significant fuel-savings between the V6 and V8 versions. That is simply just not the case anymore. I mean, look at these examples:

2010 V8 Camaro: 16 city/23 highway (estimated)
2010 V6 Camaro: 17 city/27 highway (estimated)

2010 V8 Mustang: 16 city/24 highway
2010 V6 Mustang: 17 city/26 highway

If you are that concerned about fuel economy, why are you even looking at a pony/muscle car to begin with?

All valid points, but in my opinion, buying a V6 version of a pony/musclecar is akin to kissing your sister. It doesn't matter how good-looking she is, it's still wrong.

I guess people like myself really drive you bananas.... I can afford any version of the Camaro I please and I choose the V6.
Everyone has their own reasons for their choice, personally I think the V6 is the best choice. I've driven the CTS and I'm more than happy with the throttle response. Surely there's a purpose to your rant... is it to provoke someone into explaining their reasons? A V6 is like kissing your sister.,,,, damn dude what about the poor souls that only have brothers?

It's hard to get out of old skool mode, and I agree to a point, but, what if they design a 4cyl diesel with 300hp and 800ft. lbs. torque, and it got 30mpg hwy/city...Things they are a changin.

Technology is advancing, are you going to put a carb/intake on your SS? (Some folks will)

I prefer V6 most of the time since the gas mileage, I don't need a a daily driver super car
