I agree. 187 days left for me. Good idea on the Mossberg though.... I've had one since I was 18... tough to beat one.

good choice. 500A VR 12 gauge here. Never had an issue with it in probably 5K rounds. I now wish I had gone with the 590. 5+1 is good, but the 590 comes up to 9.... the more the merrier right?

LOL.

They are both nice guns, but I prefer my Glocks all the way.

I have the Springfield XD .45. It's a great gun with great accuracy. I keep it on me when I'm out cruising in the Challenger.

I think 25 yards is pushing the limits of reality just a bit with a handgun. Most IPSC drills take place between 7 yards and 20 yards with good reason. That said, I think the biggest problem we have in target shooting is that most folks are shooting at static targets from a static position. It's good to at least get the shooter moving in some of these scenarios, too bad IPSC has ventured so far into the realm of fantasy guns.

Realistically, yes I agree. The only time most private citizens will ever fire a handgun is within 7-10 yards. In NC if you fire anything beyond 7 yards you can no longer plea self defense as you have the option if running.

Both of my parents work for the Sheriffs department and qualifying for law enforcement in NC takes place at 25 yards which is why we shoot there.

I hope that is not accurate.

(Not directed towards you, but to the absurdity of some of the laws in this country.)

Sadly enough it is.

It's about as bad as NC's castle law. You can shoot a burglar if they are unarmed BUT they have to be outside the house and you can not have seen them yet. Once they enter the house you can not shoot them unless the person actually tries to attack you or a family member.

Plus Smith & Wesson is offering $50 rebate or two free magazines (it already comes with two) - so I'll take the money. Cheapest price locally is around $525 (b4 discount).

Thankx for listening. Lori
Good choice! Although I'd grab the extra mags, you can never have too many, I think you'll be plenty happy with the M&P!

We qualify with a bit at 25yds, everything else is under, all the way to 3yds. Most shootings happen under 25yds, I think it is 7yds, that is why training happens in that range. For just target shooting, and some of the new handguns available. 150-200yds isn't out of the question at all. For self defense, 25yds is stretching it.
