Just my opinion.
i'd wager that the lighter yet slightly less powerful GTO is at a small deficit to the camaro. i don't think either or will blow the other out of the water in terms of pure performance, that's just where i'd place my bet w/o having driven the camaro

1. That is Until the Road begins to curve
2. Even If the mustang has 400 hp, The camaro still has the superior Chasis, Suspension and Brakes. It will be the better total Package IMO

Absolutely,

But, I'm thinking you have to be pushing the cars pretty hard to really see the difference in the chassis. Not too many Daily Drivers will really see the difference. Which is a bummer.

Another point is that the price difference is not what it use to be. The numbers are alot closer and for bang for the buck the Camaro wins. V-6 or V-8 does not matter. You can get a stripped down version of both but really how many of those do you think you will actually see. For the Mustang to be compared to the Camaro you have to option it to the point of the price difference is a few hundred dollars of one another, and the Camaro still has options standard that the optioned Mustang cant get.

I, for one, will be so glad when the Camaro, both V6 and V8 versions, are in peoples hands and out on the roads so all of this constant bench-racing will significantly decrease.

Of course, then we will have to endure, on both sides, numbers put up in "stock" cars by expert drivers as the official word on what they will do without taking into account that those same numbers will be rarely duplicated by a lesser driver. I think most of us on this board, and the Mustang boards, fall into the category of lesser drivers.

The fact of the matter is, there will be timeslips/video's put up showing Camaro's beating Mustangs and vice-versa.

disown me if you guys would like, but if the 2010 mustang had the 5.0 i would be getting that instead of the camaro. my family is all about mustangs but they really disappointed me with the update.

this is the major mess up with the mustang. they have a crappy v6 with 210 hp.... pathetic but how much cheaper is it than the base v6 camaro? not alot cheaper. they have a 315 hp v8... pathetic but its supposed to compete with the v8 camaro right? the closest model in performance is the gt500 (78 hp more) but a base gt500 will run you almost $20,000 more than a base v8 camaro. even a fully loaded camaro is way cheaper. now hopefully ford will step up with a newer motor, transmission (5 speed? wtf) etc. but now it doesnt make sense to me. and i wont even speak of challenger... ripoff

stupid mustangs with their good looks and not so great stock performance numbers

The 5 speed transmission in the Mustang is fine...you rarely need a 6th gear; I can cruise at 2.5k in 5th going 70 on the highway and still get 26mpg. The 6th gear is basically a double OD that makes you feel cool shifting to it from 5th.
