Battle of the Supercars: CTS-V DOMINATES Mercedes E63

THis was on speed last night, they did 4 teasts, CTSV got 3 (0-100-0, 60-130, and wet handling) and they tied one (top speed, both hit 160.5 on the alotted track). The CTS-V dominated. You have to give GM props for this car and it was nice to see a comparison where the best car actually wins instead of some magazine crap where the German car can come in last in all tests and still win the comparison. Let's chalk that up to 2 for the US, Mustang GT being big time into M3 territory for 1/2-2/3rds the price and the CTS-V dominating the E63 and being around 20k cheaper.

Oh god, I saw that. What a beat down that Mercedes took. It's funny Paul Tracy had no idea how bad ass that CTS-V was until he drove it.

I was watching it with my dad and he thought the Merc would end up winning, I was "watch, I bet the CTS-V takes all the winse". I think the only reason the E63 was able to match the CTSV in the top speed was because Tanner came out of the turn before before the straightawy a lot more more aggressively than Paul did.

People underestimate GM. The CTS-V is the fastest production sedan to ever run the ring. It is an awesome automobile. Check out these lap times from Gingerman. They include Pro Touring vehicles and some of them are monsters. 750 RWHP normally aspirated. ZR1 Corvette brakes. You get the idea. Then look at the CTS-V T2 car lap times.

Our Camaro is faster than the CTS-V race car in our most recent testing and that understates the advantage. I screwed up and used the wrong compound for the rear brake pads and created a front to rear bias issue. With the correct rear pad we are another half second faster. This is on street tires while the CTS-V race car is on full slicks.

Your Camaro is very bit the equal of a CTS-V with the addition of CTS-V front calipers and rotors along with a modest blower. Change the wheels and tires, upgrade the suspension and your Camaro will roast the Benz and CTS-V along with a Z06. The ZR1 is in a class by itself.

As has been said many times, you can make just about any car fast.
It really comes down to many other factors in choosing a car.

A Cobra replica can be fast. It isn't a world class automobile, but it is fast. The CTV-V is World Class. Fast and refined define the CTS-V

question: Watching the show now. . . when they say the Catty has 556hp. . .is that to the wheels or crank?

We are not talking about modified cars here. THese are off the shelf, as they left the factory world class (as Justicepete put it) performance monsters, the caddy is just a better and quicker world class monster
