Mostly from a stop(he usually pulls about 1/2 a car length ahead, but through 2nd gear I pull ahead)... On the highway we are pretty much neck and neck

I wasnt sure how common it was. The last dyno I seen was 48x rwhp for a 2011.

Chevy has got some work to do with the z28 thats for sure!

Here are some numbers I have found for the 2011 GT500
475RWHP
http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/ind...11-gt500-dyno/
471RWHP (they got 459 from a 2010)

472 RWHP
http://www.teamshelby.com/forums/ind...ck-2011-gt500/

Well looky here...Ill be damned...none other than MM & FF got 500rwhp on the dot. LMAO. And of course they use a dyno jet (show the highest numbers). I bet this is where you guys like to get a lot of your information. Thats cool...

http://www.musclemustangfastfords.co...240/index.html

I also think that evo got this result as well. Again...I am not surprised LOL.

From everything I have seen it looks like the car is 470-480 rwhp on average. IMO that doesnt warrant calling it a 500rwhp car. Thats like calling the new camaro a mid 12 second car or a 390rwhp car. Some have done it yes...but I wouldnt expect it. And I surely dont go around saying it on mustang boards...

I believe they are SAE certified.

Under rating is mostly a thing of the past these days.

Using a tuning tool like a dyno to calculate crank horsepower is guesswork. Especially considering its accuracy depends a lot upon how well it is calibrated. A dyno can show you just about whatever they want in terms of a cars power output/fudge the numbers if they were so inclined.

And yeah they will lose a bit less through the drivetrain than an IRS system. They could be close to 10%...

I got my info from an inside line article
"Now here's a really cool thing: Ford still offers you choices in rear axle gearing when you spec out your new 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0. Standard with the auto is 3.15 final gearing, 3.31 with the manual. But you can check off a box on the order form for 3.55 or 3.73 gears if you don't mind giving up a little fuel economy for even better acceleration. A limited-slip diff is standard on all GTs."

So this isn't correct?

Of course they use a dynojet, they are the more common, more easily compared dynamometer as opposed to the likes of a mustang dyno or dynapak because load calibration varies so much from MD to MD and numbers are generally lower. If everyone used mustang dyno numbers, the average output for an SS would likely be ~340-350rwhp. I would be interested to see the mileage of each car considering there has always been boost limiting in the first XXX miles in the gt500. That's not to say that 500whp is necessarily the average for a broken in car, just saying it may explain some of the power deficit. It honestly wouldn't surprise me at all to see 500rwhp from a '11 considering the first generation gt500's made ~435-440rwhp. I think mid 480s is more likely, but we'll see. Once more people get their hands on them, the true average will be common knowledge.

I may be wrong, but I think your "quote" is talking about gear options for the manual transmission only.

I would guess off the line traction would play a big part too. Sometimes its easier to launch a car with a taller gear and will be better 0-60 than a shorter gear just because of traction.

Gear options are only available on the manual transmission.

If you go to the Ford site and build out both the auto and manual, the auto only has 1 exterior option where as the manual has several to include gear options.

Not stock unless the dyno is mis-calibrated or they are using STD numbers.

Hahaha!!!

I can guarantee my 2010 GT500 is not laying down 500WHP stock.

I recall that same dyno also "over rated" the 2011 GT as well. Gives a new meaning to "loose" dyno.
