OK guys (or gals)...I said...can set...meaning if it goes for a crazy number then the fair market value will be higher.

I didn't mean it would set it at what ever it goes for...simply meaning based on past cars like you've both have mentioned, it will increase the fair market value.

No different the the ZR1 sitting at my dealer right now that has, and it's even on the sticker on the windshield, "FAIR MARKET VALUE ADDED: $40,000!

The car's MSRP is $116,000 and with the add on, the price is $156,000.

...or remember when the Shelby GT500 came out and they were going for $60K - $70K...people see the auction, realize it's a hot car and if willing to pay, people pay the price (the added market value).

Sorry...don't mean to rant but I don't think I said it will...(can set) is what I said...meaning it will go for more than MSRP and I think there is even proof here in a thread about dealers asking for more than MSRP.

~end rant~

I love watching the Barrett-Jackson auctions, and I haven't missed watching them for the last 7 or 8 years. They're fun, but the auction is for people with more money than brains. If you can afford to bid in that arena, you do get a good car don't get me wrong, but you adding alot to the bid just for the atmosphere and cache of doing it on the Barrett-Jackson auction instead of some other auction not televised nationally or with all the famous people hanging around.

I went to the Arizona auction last year and the cool thing is that there are hundreds and hundreds of private party sale cars there.

I live less than 1/2 mile from where the Barrett - Jackson auction and I must admit that the thousands of hot rods and custom cars that come though our area duing that time of year is really cool. I have been to most of the auctions and they are really cool and good family fun.... sometimes its a little pricey but I couldn't care how much because its a once a year thing and its just so awesome.

Ps I think the new camaro at auction will bring 1.5Million

From the LETTERS section in the February 19, 2007 issue of AutoWeek:

When the Barrett-Jackson auction was first televised, it was like an automotive This Old House: an interesting assortment of old cars lovingly restored. Now it is an automotive Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous. Who wants to sit around watching two guys bid a Shelby GT350 to $250,000? Like we should cheer as these investors push the cost of all collector cars through the roof.

Well, Jay DOES already have the serial number 001 ZR1 Corvette.

And no, not the LeMans Blue one, that was a special one-off. Jay's is Cyber Grey.

Hmmm.........

LOL! Exactly. The show artificially inflates the standard prices for these cars.

NUMBER ONE 2010 CAMARO TO BE AUCTIONED OFF AT BARRETT-JACKSON

The first production 2010 Camaro will be auctioned off at Barrett-Jackson auction.
BUY CAMARO #1 AT BARRETT-JACKSON - JANUARY 17, 2009

You Don't Need to Be Present to Bid

One very passionate Camaro enthusiast at the 2009 Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction will come away with the keys to the first regular retail production-built unit of Chevy¹s all-new, 21st Century Sports Car. This first Camaro built for regular retail production will have a VIN ending with 100001*.

Chevrolet ceased production of the fourth-generation of their vaunted sportscar in 2002. Four years later, Camaro appeared as a surprise concept vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit . The new production Camaro remains steadfastly true to that concept, with an eye-catching design reminiscent of the storied 1969 Camaro, but equipped with modern technology and a GM-estimated 27 MPG** highway when equipped with the available V6 engine.

Importantly, the winning bidder will have the ability to spec and order their Camaro to their liking, choosing from several colors, V6 or V8 engines, a manual or automatic transmission, and various trim packages and free-flow options. The vehicle will be built on the first day of retail production -- scheduled for early 2009.***

All net proceeds from the sale will benefit the American Heart Association, a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: "Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke." The association's impact goal is to reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 25 percent by 2010.

Please join GM, Chevrolet, Barrett-Jackson and the American Heart Association in pursuit of this very worthwhile effort, and be the first to own Chevy¹s 21st Century Sports Car, the 2010 Chevy Camaro.

REGISTER NOW AT WWW.BARRETT-JACKSON.COM TO BE ABLE TO BID ON AUCTION DAY.

*Prior to retail production, GM will produce its fleet of engineering and test Camaros.
** Based on GM testing. Official EPA estimates not yet available.
***Vehicle will be delivered through an authorized Chevrolet dealer.
Winning bidder responsible for taxes, title, license and registration fees.
