My complaint right now is the majority of the options for the camaro are cosmetic..
Ford is doing a much better job of delivering performance options. IMO Chevy needs to figure this part out.

Once you take the Mustang specific items off, that drops the price by 5125, making it 37145, or very comparable to the Camaro in price and it still has SYNC in it |

A couple of Mustang / Camaro notes from Pedders...
Mustang Wins -- As the gas gauge dips into miles to empty more both cars light up the gas pump symbol. When it gets really empty the entire Mustang gas gauge turns Pedders RED. Very cool! Mustang for the Win! Camaro Wins -- We just tested a 2011 Mustang with the Brembo brake upgrade. It is brand new with a couple of thousand miles BONE stock. We did not get into data logging mode because the Brembo brake upgrade pads over heated and failed in 1.5 laps. No surprise here as most OE pads will not last on the track. I got 15 laps on my Camaro Brembos SS brake, three sessions of 5 laps and drove home with no worries. The brake pads were not ideal for track use, but they allowed us to data log. Camaro for the Win! |

Yes I could of gotten a base SS and looked like everybody else on the road but I wanted it to look the part so the painted GFX and rims were going to be a must on my SS especially since I could roll the extras all on the new car loan. Even after spending $46k on a SS I still knew I was nowhere near done spending money on it because I would of still had to add mo power just like 90% of the other members here. |

Not any more. Pedders is now a a GMPP Camaro performance product. Ford must have missed the memo. The fastest street cars run on Pedders. Please forward my post to all the key decision makers at Ford. ;-)

Actually what he is talking about is factory option packages for the Mustang, . They usually offered as GT option pacckages 1-5 or something like that. Option package 5 I klnow is avail on the GT premium coupe and includes the hoodscoop, sidescoop, tall spoiler, windowscoops and the applique between the taillights, this package alone is around 1400 or so i believe. |

You may be surprised at what you see out of GM in the near future, or not.

![]() It is a bad axx Mustang and I believe it is faster than any street legal Mustang around a road course. I know both vehicles intimately. I know what they do well and I know what they don't do well. We are a suspension company. I never wanted to build Supercars. Unfortunately I found that the suspensions we build exceed the capabilities of OE wheels, tires, brakes and RWHP. We could not get to the limits of our suspension without building complete cars. The ONLY things we do not do are install roll cages or weld in braces that would not be found on a OEM chassis. The reason is they alter the harmonics of the vehicle and prevent us from optimising the chassis for street use. The brakes on the Mustang are plain and simple not as good as the Camaro. The front caliper is almost identical. That said the rear would be more at home on a 1968 Mustang with a floating caliper mounted in rubber. That does not make be a biased Camaro / GM guy. It makes me an honest person with knowledge of both vehicles. I know know more about brakes than I ever wanted to know out of necessity and safety. Check out the Saleen 'Track Edition' in my FaceBook album. http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?...00000158585997 We just tested BOTH Supercars and I can tell you they are BOTH bad axx FAST. If you want to take your 2011 Mustang with the Brembo upgrade to a road course it will absolutely need an excellent track pad. I had ours custom made by Cobalt Friction. They make only racing brake pads starting with a special high heat resistant backing plate to proprietary compounds. I would recommend them for anyone going to a road course but they are expensive. They must be made of unobtanium. To put this in perspective, my Pontiac G8 OE pads lasted three sessions of three hot laps and were in the same pathetic condition as the 11 Mustang. Most OE pads will fail when driven fast on a road course. Some faster than others. 1.5 laps for a $1,600 option is below what I would have expected. We got 7 laps out of the brake setup on the 2010. If this makes me anything but straight up dead nuts fair feel free to flame me. |

A year ago I had a couple of magazines out for a track event. These are the same guys that drive and write vehicle evaluations. I specifically asked them if they had experience on a road course. They said they are experts. I told them I was asking because if they were at the least bit uncomfortable I would have my driver scale it back a bit. No they said let it all hang out. The first ride was on an OE baseline car. They declined to take any additional hot laps in the upgraded cars. I have been asked to teach people how to drive on a road course. I have been in the passenger seat with great racing drivers going way back to David Hobbs. I can get a car around a road course to do our suspension work. I can setup a car. I cannot drive like my professionals. They are professionals and I have my learners permit. That is why you wont hear too many complaints about the brakes. Gingerman Raceway is not a brake friendly track. Gingerman eats brakes and tires while it rewards great suspension. I do ALL our track work at Gingerman for a number of reason. The #1 reason is safety. Even with the new configuration and longer back straight most street legal cars will never see 130MPH. Turn #11 is the only dangerous corner and if you know the track you can run off into the pit area instead of the wall. The rest of the turns have a lot of runoff area so you go from race car to lawn mower but are relatively safe. We clocked a 1:38.8 in the 2011 Mustang on the one lap we were able to run. That lap would have been the 5th fastest car at the Motor State Pro Touring Challenge -- a BONE stock Mustang. That is why we cooked the brakes. The pads are not designed for use that generates this much heat. The Mustang lap is 1.1seconds FASTER than the BONE stock 2010 Camaro we ran there. The Camaro was an automatic. What this tells me is that the 2011 Mustang and the 2010 - on Camaro are dead heats stick to stick for 1.5 laps. We had no problems with the SS Brembo brakes on the OE Camaro which ran three hot laps. This is as close as you can get to head to head unless you budget is unlimited and you can buy one of everything you want to test. We asked for volunteers and we got volunteered a Camaro SS auto and Mustang GT with Bembro and six speed. From there, it is what it is. Last edited by JusticePete; 08-13-2010 at 05:29 PM. |
