That not a reality in real life and my mother taught me to treat ladies better then I do other guys in a car forum, with a car garage atmosphere.

no one treats the sexes equal as if you treated men like you do women, you would get a beat down from real men, and if you treated women like you do men, you might get sued or hauled into the HR office.

And you know you do it too when your face to face with people, but on a forum your gonna act different?

If you disagree I wanna see the video of you in the hood going out of your way to hold the doors open for guys, telling them you think their pretty and giving them hugs n kisses like a lady. And keep the tape rolling, I wanna see that beat down

Id like to be able to ID the ladies and put them up one lvl above the rest of you buttturds and treat them as such, but Im not gonna treat everyone on this board like a lady by default, Im not a buttpirate.

I agree that it's not necessary- there are times that I post something (as a lady) and times my husband posts something- I don't want guys talking down to me thinking I know nothing about my car- or treating me "gently" because I'm a lady. It's a nice thought but I don't like to be treated differently. This is the only place where my boobs don't seem to matter because I know about my car, love my car, and sometimes have things to share about my car. Don't define me unless I post something .

The 'treating them differently' that we're concerned with isn't about the few being nicer to them, its all the ones that assume women know nothing about cars that are the problem. Same thing goes for age. Just treat everyone with respect and move on.

I went probably the first year of my time on a major Mustang forum not letting it slip that I was a girl just so people would take my technical posts seriously. But now, that's just too much effort, especially when I'd make an off-handed comment about my then-boyfriend (now fiancee) I really appreciate that this site has so many women on it who are enthusiasts and who aren't afraid to hide that they're women, there is a lot more acceptance here than any other car site I've been on. It would be nice, from a female POV, to be able to identify my fellow ladies.

Age, however, is pretty much irrelevant IMO.

I’ve never seen that happen, only the opposite happens when a girl is talking out her --- the men clam up and don’t call them on it out of respect.

In the same way a girl talking crap at a bar, her boyfriend gets a beat down and not her.

The only down side I have seen is everyone hittin on them as those types of chicks are in high demand but are few n far between.

Im just saying id like to treat the ladies like ladies, and your answer to treat everyone like a lady will not work

Though I wonder what the female mods here at C5 think????

One of the great things about this forum is the openness of it. A woman is welcome to identify herself on this forum. At the same time, she is welcome to post technical information, share opinions, and publish a build journal like the rest of us. You pointed out in this post two obvious reasons why identifying women on a forum could be a potential problem.

One of those reasons is that she might find herself not taken seriously. "Out of respect" she might not find her posts criticized the same way a man's post is. She would probably find that offensive. If she wants to participate in this or any other community, she probably expects the same treatment. When she posts something incorrect about her engine internals for instance, she would probably like feedback correcting her mistake, just like the rest of us. Imagine posting a question on here about building a custom exhaust with the assumption that an H-pipe has better flow characteristics than an X-pipe. If you made that assumption and never were corrected because you were a man, would you feel somehow cheated? Would you feel like you didn't get the information you needed to make an educated decision about your build?

Another reason you suggested might be a little more pressing. If a woman is constantly the subject of unnecessary attention for being female, she might feel singled out. We don't want to create an environment where male members are constantly pointing to her gender as a reason for anything. Let's say you treat women differently than men. It is safe to say that a lot of men do that. Imagine that a married woman is a Camaro enthusiast and she joins here only to be constantly the target of flirting and pickup lines. That's not why she joined. She wanted to be in a community of Camaro enthusiasts to discuss Camaros, muscle cars, GM, performance builds, and the next local meet in her area.

As a community, we want our members to be able to discuss whatever they want withing site rules, and that means that our members have control over whether they make their identities public or private. Women who want to be identified by gender are obvious here, and we know some of them by name or image. Those who do not want that kind of recognition are still welcome.

I'll do that, no problem!! But first, I want to see a video of you holding a door open on the internet for anyone!

I think you're taking it out of context. It's very simply an attempt to limit any identifiers that can contribute to any sort of discrimination whatsoever. If you call a lady around here a "he"...they'll let you know!

I'm afraid you'll have to pick your coat up off the puddle, and keep that charming smile to yourself for a while...There are far fewer chivalrous characters like yourself than there are people who would use a gender ID as a reason to make smart remarks or rude comments. We'd rather have it that way...for now.

I hope you can understand.

In case you're wondering or have bad eyesight, yes, I'm a "she", and yes, the photo is me..

I've been on this site for about a year, I lurked for several months just reading and learning til I grew a pair and joined in by commenting. I have provided my input and opinions on anything from detailing, mods, Camaro5 Store to PQ's "guns". I have been treated fairly and have made many friends on this site.

I've got no problem with my age, it's on my profile, but I'll save you the time to look it up, I'm 51.

I don't even FB (facebook) anymore cause I am so into the topics discussed on this site as most of them pertain to me (as a Camaro owner).

Yes, there are a lot of young ones on here as of late (<16), but we are a Family-Friendly site, so I simply advise everyone to keep that in mine when sending a reply. As always, my two cents. Lori

I may have bad eye sight, because you look at least 20 years younger in your avatar picture.
