Personally, I still don't think the vast majority of Americans have any interest in electric cars, let alone one with such bland styling and such limited range.

We can agree to disagree. In the end, the sales will tell the story. Will people buy the Volt? Sure. Heck, people buy SmartCars, Versa's and Fit's, too. I will not be one of them.

You're absolutely right: people will buy different cars from one another. And thank God for it. I'd hate to live in a world where all the cars on the road are the same.

There is a market for the Volt. Just because few of us here are in that market...doesn't make it a bad car.

Could I ask why? Not challenging -- but I'm very interested in this backstory!

Not much to it. One appeals to my mind, the other to my gut.

Then don't buy one. Nobody's forcing you to.

If I had the income, I'd probably pull the trigger on the $350/month for 36 months lease deal on the spot. Being a poor college student, however, the Envoy my parents passed over to me will have to do for now.

Ummmmmmm, the Edsel was a intended to be a high volume car and it, as we all know, was NOT.

The Volt on the other hand is step one in a journey. It isn't intended to be high volume.......it isn't intended to be THE answer for every car buyer. If you read anything about GMs strategy they have been at least repetative in saying the answer is a broad based solution including electric, biofuels, and good old gasoline with a dash of LPG and CNG. Anyone that is trying to claim the Volt as a fail for sales is not reading and not paying attention. It will only fail if it fails to deliver on the technology. It's that simple. If you are trying to make a different case, then you are trying to make one that GM isn't.

And yes, having driven one, it would be perfect for my drive. For Mrs. Number 3? Not so much...........until her employer has plug in infrastructure.

If I didn't want a 4x4 for second vehicle so badly, I would DEFINITELY consider this as a second car/daily driver. I'm VERY interested in this car. The lease option just sweetens the deal.

Why am I seeing teasers on the news about the volt that seem to already be declaring the car a waste of bailout money? I think they are already trying to shape public opinion that the Leaf is better. When is GM going to hit back with some PR showing why the Volt is the best electric?

Actors ride in Limos. Only "D-listers" still drive themselves.

Politicians fly in jets and helicopters that belch carbon.
