2 years in a nice car then forever in the Camaro, and this site is still going to be a daily visit. Thanks all. While I did fit in the Camaro, it just wasn't quite enough. I hear good things are in store in a year or so on the Camaro interior and engine, so either way I win.

I'm grateful for everyone's input here. Thank you!

might of not been what you want, but still CONGRATS. I bet she'll be beautiful! 1 question though, why did you go with a new stang? there are plenty of fast 05-09 stangs out there, look at the roushs and saleens. either way congrats though.

If you're happy with a Camaro, you'd be happy with the new 5.0. I've driven both of them, and I'd love to own either one. Unfortunately, if you want a vert your options are limited to just the Mustang, but the 2011 GT is an awesome car so don't feel short-changed.

I have no trouble believing that he had a problem with the limited headroom in the new Camaro. I had the same problem when I tried to sit in the driver's seat of a Gen 5 Camaro, worse in fact. I had to recline the seat to "gangsta plus" standards, with my arms uncomfortably stretched out to reach the steering wheel. I am 6'3", 265 lb, with only a 30" inseam length... i.e. long torso. I did fit in the previous more retro Mustang with barely adequate head clearance, but I haven't tried the new version yet. My Challenger fits me fine, but if it had a sunroof it would be a problem for me. I have sat in sunroof equipped Challengers in dealer showrooms, and my hair was in contact with the headliner. I adjusted the seat some, but it never fully resolved the problem.

In a previous post, "jrc1122" gave the front seat headroom for the Mustang and Camaro... but here are the headroom values for all three modern musclecars:

Challenger - 39.3 inches
Mustang - - 38.5 inches
Camaro - - 37.4 inches

The almost 2 inch difference in headroom between a Challenger & Camaro will likely prevent me from ever owning one... I still might have a V6 Mustang one day tho...

I absolutely loved the room in the Challenger, problem was that they charged too much for what you get. I think if they were more competitive on pricing, alot of us taller and/or bigger people would jump at it. It may weigh a lot but it's nice looking.
I'm going to press forward with the Mustang despite the frustrating announcement of the Camaro Convertible order date sometime in October

I'll definately post a fair review once I get it. And in 2 years or so I'll trade to the Z28 (or 2SS depending on how they deal with the model discrepency they're making) Convertible and have had a mind-opening experience with both!

Thanks very much, I am looking very forward to it, wish they'd let you track the build online, I'm anxious!!! Summer's ending!

Sounds like standard Mustang Owner Logic.
The Mustang is a smaller car correct, but also has more headroom. Does that clear things up?

this is a true statement. the camaro is basically all concept car, thats why it has such bad visibility and no head room. im 5'3 so i guess i wont mind the head room that much. lol

Headroom is one thing but why take a depreciation hit on a car you 1) don't really want and 2) apparently plan to sell in just one or two years? Why not just get a used car to tide you over or find a car with enough headroom that you actually like? Mustang or not, that $38+K car new is going to fetch mid-twenties when you go to sell it in 2 years' time.

Take it from the Ogre of C5 (I'm 6'9")- I have sat in both the Mustang and the Camaro. I could hardly close the door in the Mustang because the leg room was so bad. The Camaro has great leg room, and with the seat all the way down I have plenty of head room (no sun roof). If you're looking for a car with more room for the people in the front seat, the Camaro is the way to go.

My plan to absorb the depreciation is that my wife's grandfather retired from Ford, so I'm using the Z-Plan to buy it at a discount, my wife's brother works at GM so when I get the Camaro, I'll use the GM Family discount to buy that. Between the two I don't think depreciation will be worth more than enjoying the Mustang for 2 years and then getting the latest Camaro down the road.

As for the head room, the Mustang convertible as mentioned earlier in this thread has more than an inch more head room (torso - head) than the Camaro coup. When the Camaro convertible is available, that may change. For now, the Mustang fits me better.

I agree with this. Why not buy an older Mustang GT 99-04 or 05-09 or 1998-2002 Camaro Convertible to tide you over until a better option becomes available?
