FYI...the 5.0 makes peak power at 6600. One of the main advantages to a "tune" in the 5.0 is raising the rev limiter from the stock 6850 rpm (which really hurts for drag racing) to up over 7000 rpm. The usefulness of this is in letting the engine make more AVERAGE HP in each gear, by allowing higher rpm shifts, thus keeping the engine from falling too far out of its powerband when you engage the next gear. It should be noted that in stock form, GM's limiter allows the driver to take better advantage of the LS3's powerband than Ford does with the 5.0. |

If we're talking about a 2011 V6 Mustang vs. a 2010+ V6 Camaro the Mustang will KILL it whether it is an auto or a manual all day.
This is a fact. |

Lower gear
I think the 3:73 gear in the Mustang helps a lot
in 0 to 60 and quarter mile times. |

Most of the time is the car from newer year vs older year. Like this one 2010 vs 2011 of course 2011 would more likely to win. 85% of the time XD
I don't know much about car, but as for me i would go for camaro. They look nicer, its a completely new look. You either hate it or love it. As for mustang vs camaro. Its like Nvida VS ATI video card. if you know what i'm talking about. Don't have that kind of money to spend.

Getting high RWHP cars to hoop on anything but full slicks is not easy. Track prep has a lot to do with it. I have run strips where all I do is spin two thirds of the way down the track. Other tracks the hook up is fast and sure.

One day we were messing with my car on the dyno and the ECU recognizes WOT at 85% pedal position.
Maybe that was what they were talking about. |

I also test drove the new 5.0. I drove an automatic. These were my impressions as compared to my L99 SS:
First off, the 5.0 I drove was very ugly. The wheel package, bright red leather interior and little mini disc brakes did not look good. Of course, when I started the engine, the Mustang exhaust note was very nice and I thought it sounded much better than the stock SS exhaust note. I purposely drove the Mustang over an old and somewhat bumby asphalt road to test the live axle and see how it functioned with the entire car's suspension. I have to say, I didn't mind the live axle and the car felt pretty sturdy and smoothe on the uneven pavement. But, I didn't drive very fast and and I didn't make any quick lane changes so I don't know how the live axle feels when you push things a bit. The acceleration felt smoothe and linear. Even with the 3.15 rear gears the car picked up speed pretty well. I turned traction control off and launched the car a few times and although the car starts moving pretty well after about 30 mph, down low it didn't feel like it was close to spinning the tires. (However, it was a very hot day and the road and tires must have been pretty hot). I can see how the manual with the 3.73 gears could deliver an excellent launch. Did I miss something or is there no "manual" shifting option for the automatic? Also, is there a sport mode akin to the sport mode in the Camaro? The vision in the Mustang is night and day compared to the Camaro -- so much better. I really can't stand the retro gauges in the the Mustang -- very ugly to me. The seats were comfortable but didn't feel as sporty as the Camaro. When you sit down into the Camaro you feel like you're getting into a sporty car and when you shut the door of the Camaro you feel like you're in a vault. I have been thinking of getting a new Mustang or a new GT500. The GT500 appeals to me because the engine is built for boost, but I just wish the interior was a little more refined for the price. Apparently, the Mustang options that I like are pretty rare because there are no models like I would want on sale in Southern California. I would go with the Kona blue (no stripes), black premium interior, Brembo brake package and the 3.73 limited slip. Overall, I am very impressed with the new Mustang's performance. I wish the interior looked a little more refined (I wish the same thing for the Camaro). I also wish the automatic transmission had a better rear gear option. I still like the way the Camaro SS looks compared to the Mustang GT. But I think the 2011 GT500 with the performance package looks the best. |
