I've gotten a chance to ride in Andrew Bynum's GTR..
That thing is FAST!!!!!!!! ..As far as racing goes..For small layouts such as autocross I've seen Miata's and Integra's walk on fast cars...
On small road courses such as Streets of Willow the same; But When you're talking about Sebering, or California Speedway, or LVMS...The HP helps .

FWIW, I have yet to see a GTR beat a Z06 at the strip in person.

The GTR is a monster, and deserving of respect though. It's not really for me overall though.

Good discussion, but it's comparing apples and oranges. RWD vs. AWD isn't a "fair" comparison. If a base Corvette were AWD it would be on par with a GTR or even a bit quicker. Even the significantly lower weight and 505 hp can't overcome the traction advantage the GTR has. Any time I've driven a Z06, heck even a base Corvette, you can't get it to hook up on the 1 - 2 shift. The Corvette is simply traction limited.

And I would say the GTR is "quicker", not faster. I'm pretty sure the Z06 has a higher top end due to the hp and VERY low Cd. But that's semantics.

That being said, the GTR is still a marvel for what it is capable of. Looks aside it's pretty cool stuff.

Throw AWD on a base Corvette and it will be slower. You have to take into account all the added weight and increased drivetrain losses.

I've seen a bunch driving around but have only had 2 close encounters. The first was a huge d-bag at 7eleven who was getting a chubby from the 3 people looking at his car and telling him how cool it was. He then went on to say how he beats the crap out of ZR1's and that where I couldn't bite my lip anymore. The guy was a complete idiot and really turned me away from that car. The 2nd was at the drag strip where a 3ft. Asian man had the same attitude and was running really good times. It was an AMS built car though. So far I have come across nothing but d-bag, I'm better than everyone owners. Maybe that's the reason I want to turbo my car.

Yea, amazing car it is. I have seen a few in person at a local Nissan dealership. For their first American supercar try, Nissan did the job right!

It's the best performing car under 100k. It can run with Ferraris, Lambos, and Porsches. It's $40,000 cheaper than the zr1, which is already a performance bargain. What are you talking about?

That could be said about any new performance car sold.
