I believe he was exhibiting a sarcastic overtone. I could be wrong. ![]() My POV is from taking the best of the best and comparing them hence the 5.0 remark. Something like the GT350 combo for example. Just a thought. Nothing wrong with a blown 4.6 however as that was the shining light at the end of a long dark tunnel for them. |

Try an MGW shifter in a Camaro and you'll know why I thought the Mustang shifter was sloppy.

I think both of those cars look damn near perfect. I like the wheels on the camaro more though. Lovin' the color scheme.

I am not so sure the transmission is the single limiting factor. I think compression is limiting the amount of boost. I don't think the M6 in the Mustang is any less stout than the M6 in the Camaro and there are many Camaros pushing more to the wheels than the GT350. Livernois just announced a new piston/rod package for the 5.0 that will allow upping the boost. (I.E. lower compression option and a higher compression option for the N/A and nitrous crowd.) |

At Gingerman we pretty much run the entire course in 3rd and 4th so the 5 vs. the six is almost irrelevant. With the 19x10.5" wheel and 305/30/19 wheels we effectively raise the rear end gear. The Mustang came with a 3.73. Calculating the wheel change the Camaro runs a 3.73. Calculating the wheel change on the Mustang we are close to a 4:11. Wasn't there a discussion on how important rear end gearing is just a page or too ago?
These two cars BOTH run faster than some race cars at Gingerman. They are fast, very fast. They have excellent brakes. They are stable and predictable. I wish we had access to some European sports cars for benchmarking. I think our cars would shock people. They are iconic American Muscle that hold their won against most anything with four wheels. If you are a Camaro fan of a Mustang fan these cars prove that Detroit Iron is not only back, Detroit Iron is better than ever. |

I do that a lot, so this is important information for me. I don't care if the Camaro weighs 300 lbs more -- Those Chevy guys think of everything...

MotorTrend re-tests the 2011 GT500
![]() Gotta be better numbers in that car! Gotta be!" That's what we all said when intrepid road tripper Carlos Lago reported his results of the "GT500 Quadrathalon". We're never sure of test results obtained on the road. We don't know a lot about the tester the carmaker sent us away with. Are the tires fresh, or have they been heat-cycled 100 times, and getting old, hard, and slow? Was the car broken in properly or at the hands of a bunch of mad journos attacking a racetrack for the first time? Even though Carlos is a solid, consistent tester, we wanted another crack at the new 2011 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang on our own test track, using our regular gear, etc. So we did it. And found a pinch and an inch here and there, but nothing overwhelming. In summary, MT resident road tester and hot-shoe Scott Mortara got the 0-60 down to 4.1 seconds and peeled off consistent quarter-mile runs of 12.35 seconds at 115.75 mph. Grip? Yeah, we got grip. The new tires really are better: 1.01g average on the skid. Braking virtually identical at around 103 feet from 60 mph. With slicks, this 3800-pound musclemaker would run well under four seconds to 60. All friggidy day. http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...est/index.html |
