Here's the type of re-engineering which unions must be willing to conceed to within the US and Canada:

I am ashamed of Bob Corker, does he not realize GM has a big plant in Tennessee, and many suppliers of parts and materials for all the automakers? Or is all he worried about are Nissan and Volkswagen?
My kind of thinking right here. Boot out the guy who's screwing the working family in your state. I mean, it sucks for the people who are working in those plants that lose their jobs. But, it's going to suck for anyone losing their job. But, doing it this way will put pressure on those congressmen and will eventually lead them to being booted from office. Personally, I'd hate to have a few hundred thousand people knocking....BEATING...down MY door!

WONDERFUL article. I really wish we could see someone take on all those jackasses that are "kicking our tires."

....and yes...I'd really love to know what they are driving right now so we can point fingers and tell them they just lost their x,y,z and now can only own a bla, bla, bla.......and "YOU don't have a choice! You made the bed...YOU sleep in it."

I have been thinking, but you know, there are many more factors involved with this that the car companies can't control no matter how they restructure.

1. Will the unions co-operate? will they take more concessions?

2. What about the suppliers? will they cut their prices and change the ways they do business with the car companies to help out?

3. The biggest is, the American people, will they give the big 3 a chance by purchasing an American car?

No matter how good the product is, if nobody will buy one because of fear they won't be around next year nothing will save them.

I have gotten in the mail before coupons good for $1000 to trade in my older GM car on a new one, wouldn't it be a good Idea to send those coupons to owners of foreign cars to entice them to switch? Just an Idea.

No question about the bank bailout. As far as the auto industry, we will probably regret it in the long run. Apparently, if this deal goes through, the "Federal Gubment" will appoint a "car czar" to oversee the big 3's business dealings. That's right, they want some idiot over-paid federal employee with zero automotive backround telling the auto industry how to run it's business. Are you freaking kidding me? The "Gubment" can't run it's own affairs....how in the HELL are they going to do that with the big 3? If you all want to drive around in solar-powered tin-cans costing twice as much as a loaded Escalade, fine, but count me out. The "Gubment" has put enough regs on the industry as it is, and I am sure Pelosi and Company can't wait to finally have TOTAL CONTROL over the industry. We are all going to regret this in the future, trust me. You certainly won't be seeing any Camaros, Corvettes, Mustangs, or Challengers in the new "Gubment controlled" auto industry. God help us.
