i never said it was any better than a Camaro, however id take it over the mustang / challenger.

And at the end of the day i guess you just have to be 'that type of person', just as a bmw person would have a hard time finding the logic behind a live rear axel

A tick over 13.0 sec. and you're through the quarter-mile. It's a rush, of course, but not overly dramatic. Try the same thing with this pair's predecessors of 1970 or so and you'll find yourself in a bit of a wrestling match. Ain't progress wonderful? Maybe yes, and maybe sometimes it's fun to wrestle."

Have you ever seen a VR6 go more than 130,000 miles on it's original timing chain.

How many 300,000 mile BMWs have you seen? Maybe an old 528e or two. 4000 rpm redline and 7.5:1 CR and you can make anything last forever

How many 300,000 mile Mercedes Benz gasoline powered engines? Sure, a 300SD will easily go that long but gasoline engines? not so much.

BMW switchgear is crap. Their electrical systems are the most 'normal' of the German cars, and it's crap.

Then they stick you with that horrible i-drive. The concept of having a mouse-like controller isn't bad. BMW's execution is terrible.
Es ist scheize.

I actually had a 1986 325 that had over 340,000 miles on it when I finally parked it without any major engine work. My dad owned a BMW service shop so that helped, but we have had MANY over the years that would not die! Ad you're right the 528 was one that lasted longer than others (sometimes to my sisters' and I's wishes that they would die!!!)

I agree...Everyone has an opinion, but the OP asks about looks alone. These two cars are in completely different price ranges! Anyone who claims they were in the market for a Camaro but decided on a 3 series coupe is lying! Or they hit the lottery while car shopping! You really can't compare the two (apples and oranges)...

BTW: I have driven A LOT of BMW's (some great, some not so great)--My dad owns a service shop that is strictly BMW and I married a GM guy who has owned several Camaros/Vettes. I have heard all of these debates at family get-to-gethers for years. It really boils down to personal preference... As you can see I shifted from BMWs to GM vehicles (except for the 92 325is I had when I got married-It still has a place in our garage next to my husband's vettes--He's Thrilled!)

I think that analogy might work if people in the 21st century preferred live rear axles

I think that that picture looks a lot like a GTO that's been beaten with an ugly stick.

its the camaro that does it for me looks wise.

btw, on the topic of vehicle longevity, i seem to remember a news article quite a while back about a dodge car, cant remember the make, that had over 1 million miles on it. all numbers matched and everything. i think they gave the sole owner of the car a viper or something for a publicity stunt.

wish i could find that article. anyways, at the time i remember my feeling was it seemed like, to me, the only cars that seem to last that long are ugly cars.

BMW does have cutting edge engineering of the highest level. That being said, I think a common trend these days in the German and European cars is people feeling they are over-refined as someone put it. The engineering of the car is intrusive on the driving experience and translation of the road to the driver. To Loosely quote Top Gear it is like the difference between moving troops around in a war room back at command and actually being on the front lines of the fight. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

Ithink it was a Saab (there may have been a Dodge too), but two years ago? they had a Saab with over 1 million on it at the Detroit Auto Show. It was ugly but it was still going!
