Right. Hyundai is going to be marketing the V6 Genesis coupe to rivals such as Infiniti's G37 Coupe, Audi's TT Coupe, BMW 1 series, just like they are marketing the Genesis sedan to other Mercedes, BMW's, Lexus, Infiniti, etc.

However the Genesis Coupe is going to compete with the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger most definitely. Granted its V6 competes very well against the V6 versions of the three mentioned above, but its price puts it in direct competition with the V8 versions that will squash it.

But I like the Genesis Coupe,

heck, if the turbo 4 costs around the same price of a Camaro V6 LS just upgrade the turbo and a few other mods and you could be having a 300hp Genesis like this...

It doesn't look like a pony car. When I first saw it I originally thought FWD tuner. The whole car looks hunched over the front wheels. It sweeps forward instead of backward. It doesn't give that appearance of resting on its rear haunches waiting for any provocation to pull a wheelstand. Just...no.

You know the old saying. If it looks like a tuner, walks like an tuner, and quacks like an tuner, then it is obviously a duck. Or am I missing something?

Pony cars are a subset of muscle cars. The primary distinction was that pony cars were reasonably well handling. Pony cars are small to midsized 2+2 rwd coupes with an optional V8. Styling is typically long hood/short deck, though this is not always the case (Mustang Fastback).

Based on that, the Genesis coupe is not a pony car.

Lots of good thoughts here. I definitely think the styling has a lot to do with calling a car a pony car. Or frankly a muscle car for that matter. The Hyundai doesn't look the part, at least to me. But leads me to ask another question: are 2nd, 3rd and 4th gen Camaros also considered pony cars? Is the styling of a 4th gen the same as a 1st gen (in terms of calling the 4th gen a pony car)?

i'd almost only call the 4th gen a pony car because of the nameplate. i think it was the black sheep of camaro design. i never really cared for the body style with its relatively short hood that sloped down & was hard to see from inside (i like to be able to see the hood), the smooth round lines, and the really pointy nose. i'm glad they revisited the 1st gen styling with our new baby.

Slow? I bet it'd be faster than your SS 2.4 and my Cobalt SS/SC. A 3,549lbs RWD 2+2 seater with the same 2.0L block as the EVO, with just a few bolt ons and a tune, and maybe a larger turbo cranking out 300+ hp would also be quicker than a Camaro V6...
