It sounds horrible to say, but I glad that GM is finally cutting some dealerships, not that it is good for the workers, but it is good for GM. I have 20 Chevrolet dealerships within a 20 mile radius of where i live. Are you serious, WHY! We don't buy vehicles everyday, this is not walmart, Yes its bad for the workers that work at these dealerships, but these are dealerships that should not have been started in the first place. We have nothing but highways here in Indiana, Highways and corn, It is quite obvious that we can get to places really fast. GM has needed to cut off the fat for years, and I for one, am happy to see some cutting. Let the restructuring commence, In the end we will have a much better GM, and hopefully someday the Z will be in our future. But i didn't expect them to possibly put up saturn, that was a surprise.

well...overall...like I know anything
. I'm pleased. Less brands, less dealers, less models = more money, and better focus on what counts. The "core brands".It sounds like Buick is to GM what Mercury is to Ford...I can see that. Pontiac sounds like it's going to be sent to a much smaller, and higher-priced market...think American BMW or Audi...maybe. The loss of Saturn is unfortunate. I like them...but, I don't buy their stuff...that's part of the problem. If you really think about it, if you want a family sedan from GM...you can choose from a nearly-identical Saturn, Pontiac, Buick or Chevrolet. That means 3 out of 4 of those brands AREN'T going to get your money, and will instead sap off of the Chevy(for instance) sale to live. Doesn't make sense, does it? If they loose Saturn, and shrink Pontiac, then you're choice is now a Chevy or a Buick...two different-enough brands that deciding between the two is a legit question. Leaner, meaner, and more profitable by 2012...I wish it was sooner, but this is a good plan... Now it's up to congress to get their heads out of their a$$es and approve the loans. If they do...and this recession eases in the later half of 2009, we will see a New General Motors...one that Toyota doesn't have a chance against.:flag2: |

This is something I'm curious about. If I have a stake in these companies (AIG, GM, whomever) what does that mean for me? When they become profitable will I get a check in the mail? |

I still don't see how they close a brand without lawsuits ala Oldsmobile or lots of money which they don't have. Also they can't cut dealers due to franchise laws so... this should be interesting.

Well, I suppose you could ask for your part of the dividend, but if the government bought . . . 100k shares (purely a guess), multiplied by lets say each one pays a $5 dividend, divided the population of the United States, that works out to . . . about the cost of a stamp, give or take.

They cut dividends this past summer/fall as part of an emergency liquidation move.
When and if they decide to reinstate them, preferred stockholders will start getting checks in the mail again. But the gov't has to approve this loan, first. |

Could they just stop production or discontinue the line and force the dealers out? If there's no product then really there's nothing to sell. Or would it be a mutual agreement that all parties could agree to to save the Co? Because if GM fails all the lawyers in the world can't save the dealership:flag2:
