For practical purposes, fuel/fixed distance makes much more sense. I've never wondered "well, I've got 10L of gas in my tank, how far can I drive?". For distances, units of 100 are the most convenient since we typically round to the nearest 100 when talking about long distances. Plus, going gal/mi (or L/km) would give numbers like 0.05 or 0.13. Not the most convenient of figures. And we use L, not gallons. And the gallons we use are different than the ones you use.

For example, lets say you have a 500 mile trip, and your car gets 27 mpg in mostly highway driving. How much gas would you use? Well, I can't divide 500 by 27 in my head. But, in gal/100mi it would be a lot different. 27 mpg is about 4 gal/100mi. 500mi x 4gal/100mi = 20 gal. Same thing works for L/100km. 800 km x 9l/100km = 72L

Back from the beach. A little overcast for the first part of the day but we enjoyed ourselves.

They seem to be happening a lot more this summer. It's been quiet for the last few years, but this is more like I remember it when I was a kid.

EDIT: USGS changed their numbers. Apparently it was a 5.4, then a 3.6. Four 3.0 aftershocks from the 5.4 though.

Also, three in a row.
