saw a chevy volt in nyc, took a few pics

so today i was parked on a parking deck in nyc and i had already started up my car when i saw a kind of familiar car all the way at the end of the deck. not mustang-familiar as in "one at every corner" but some kind of "i know that car from somewhere"-familiar. upon closer inspection it turned out to be a chevy volt with manufacturer plates (removed in the pic). i dont know much about the car itself so i can't tell you what specific model it was or what options it had. the hatch was wide open and some volt promo tshirts were in the trunk. here are a few phone pics.

Very sweet! Did you get a promo tshirt? They have that promo going on, take a picture of it and get a Volt tshirt!

Was the owner/GM tester nearby? It's a bit strange to see a pre-production car model parked in a corner with its rear hatch open. I agree that it looks 100x better than the Prius. I just hope it doesn't overtake the Prius as the new Liberal-mobile of America.

no idea honestly. there were two ladies walking around (you can see them in the pics) and they didn't really seem to care that i was checking it out.

i'm sure it had something to do with the macy's 4th of july fireworks or the inauguration of the norwegian epic (new cruise ship).

It was driven from Austin, TX to New York for the 4th of July (1,776 miles). Whitacre announced Austin and New York would be added to the initial Volt launch markets the other day.

The engineers driving didn't care about people poking around because that's what they want people to do.

There was a commerical for the Volt on during the Yankees Jays game this afternoon. I don't remember the exact details but the commerical was a view going down a highway with some scenic mountains in the distance and a few curves ahead. The actual message of the commercial was something about the sound you hear is the sound of a big change. The Volt logo comes up and you realize that the sound was the sound of a car with no gas engine going down a higheay.

the prototype for this car was the real wow! Then they changed to the one pictured, not a fan. The prototype would have been awesome and sold like hotcakes...

but the problem is that the volt concept was as aerodynamic as a brick, and not the second most aerodynamic car GM has ever made
