You listed no known case of an oil company 'buying plans'. This is what makes it a lie. If you wish to make it not a lie, please go into detail about a specific case.

Worldwide oil companies that billions of people depend on for their livelihood need money to continue to operate. I fully support them and their product and I want them to continue to produce their product. The world would still be in the 1800's without them.

I'm OK with people dying in order for them to continue to deliver their product in their current fashion.

Right, so anyway, back the original topic; I applaud Tesla for sticking their neck out on this new technology and for making an electric vehicle that isn't boring

GM made an EV 14 years ago. It was a financial failure even with the massive subsidies GM got to do it.

GM is doing it again with the Volt but this time with a little addition: a gasoline engine.

Tesla has not motivated the entire auto industry. Most automakers have no plans to produce an electric or hybrid car. They may have some 'concepts' with EV or hybrid but they are nothing more than the rocket cars of the 1950's.

There is a difference between being scared and being smart. Likewise, there is a difference between being bold and being stupid.

Get back to you with what? Proof that economy type electrics make a lot more sense than electric sports cars and sports sedans?

After a few wealthy enviromentalists buy these cars, I'm wondering who is going to fork out that kind of money for a Tesla. I mean really, do you know ANYONE who is planning on buying one? I sure don't.

One day we will run out of oil. At that time, people may be buying Teslas like we buy early '70s Hemi Cudas now? Who knows?

There have been countless electric cars produced over the past centure which have come and gone. The energy density of fossil fuels is just so incredibly high that as wasteful as it is there's nothing short of nuclear energy that even comes close.

I hardly think that it's "fear" that has prevented them from repeating bad business decisions. It's intelligence.

Right, it's tesla's NEW model that is coming out that is supposed to be around 50k, think it's a crossover model? Something along those lines though, aimed more for families.
